Great Retractable Leash; and best Customer Service around!
I bought the Sturdy Dawg retractable leash to replace a broken Kong leash; actually it was the second Kong retractable leash to break with less than three months of use. We walk our short-haired collie on forest trails daily, and strongly prefer a retractable leash to give her more flexibility to explore just off the trail. So while I'm aware of the weak points of retractable leashes as opposed to fixed-length leads, I really wanted to replace the broken Kong leashes with another retractable, but hopefully with a sturdier brand. After some research and a careful reading of reviews, I purchased the Sturdy Dawg leash. When it was delivered, we were impressed with the solid construction. We got about 3 months of hard use out of it..., Our 72 pound collie is always on " squirrel patrol", and loves to unexpectedly lunge into the forest to chase them. I did notice that, as the leash got lots of daily use, the flexible fabric lead did soften up, and would more often get twisted up in the slot where it exits from the case, and would occasionally would get stuck in the slot. As long as there was still some reserve lead still inside the case, it usually wasn't difficult to free up. But I noticed that if you allowed the lead to extend completely and left it there as you were walking your dog, then if the lead got twisted up in the slot and stuck, there was no way to jiggle, flip it over to free it up. This was how it finally broke....my wife was out with the dog, let the leash extend fully, and it became twisted and stuck, our dog lunged into the woods, and the spring that retracts the lead broke. I disassembled the leash hoping to fix it, but the spring was not replaceable. So why am I giving this leash a 5-star rating? Because their customer service when I wrote them about the broken leash turned out to be the best service I have ever received from any company I have purchased from. I wrote them with some suggestions about how to prevent the lead from twisting and become stuck, and also suggested that the retraction spring needed to be more robust. Within a day, I received a long email from the Sturdy Dawg small business owner, informing me that they were working on a new production model that had already incorporated some of the same improvement suggestions I had made in my email. The business owner wrote me several more times to keep me updated on the status of the new leash it went into production and then was shipped out to Amazon. Thanks to her generosity and care for her customers, I now have the new version of the leash, and it is indeed sturdier and better constructed than the original model I had purchased. I will update again after three or four months of hard daily use!

Broke on 3rd use
Totally useless. The third time I used it it snapped of, right behind the clip, and I ended up chasing my 40 pound border collie puppy through Bass Pro. I am NOT happy.***Update*** The seller promptly contacted me and made good by returning my money right away. Amazon was insisting they would not issue a refund until they had received the item back but the seller issued the refund immediately. Well done. Additionally, they offered to ship me a new leash at no cost. I cannot take them up on this for the simple reason that I cannot trust their leash. One broke, right off the bat, how can I possible trust another not to break? My dog is a 10 month old puppy and I live on 10 acres with a very busy road intersection at the end of the property. He loves to run and not stop and, on both occasions that he has gotten loose before, he has made a beeline for that intersection. I will only trust sturdy leashes from now on.I am increasing my rating to "3 stars" based on the excellent customer service of the company, not the product itself.I will say that I liked the locking mechanism on this leash and it was easy to hang on to. perhaps it would be ok for smaller dogs?

Fantastic!
I received the sturdy dawg retractable leash and I am very pleased with it! You can really tell how sturdy and what high quality it is. The retraction is very smooth and I love that I don't have to push and hold one button to brake while trying to reach another button to lock. Just one smooth action! Fantastic! I bought this leash to replace a dual retractable leash I had for my two dogs which unfortunately broke, was out of warranty, and was expensive to replace. My intention was to use this single leash with a coupler so I can still walk my two dogs without juggling two leashes. Unfortunately I have found that using the coupler will not work for my dogs. The ends of the coupler (each attached to one dog) pull against each other so if one dog is doing his business and the other wants to walk (or run) the other way, one of them is going to get pulled off their feet. And believe it or not, they never want to just stand by while their buddy is " occupied"! I really need a dual leash where the attached ends do not pull against each other. If this company made a dual retractable leash I would buy it in a minute! I am really impressed with the quality of this one and will continue to use it whenever I have to take the dogs out singly. I recommend this leash to anyone who has a dog. It is the best constructed retractable leash I have ever used.

Not worth it
I bought this leash for my 45lb boxer. This is what I've noticed so far. I've used it for a week.1. It's already frayed. Not badly, but I've used it maybe 6 times. This does not bode well for the future.2. It takes forever to retract. My boxer, the other dog I walk, and I are constantly getting tangled in it.3. When it finally does retract, it does it loosely in the casing. This means that when I "lock" the leash and my dog puts any resistance on it, I get an extra 6-12 inches of length as the leash tightens within the casing. I've starting locking the leash, tugging on it, unlocking, shortening, then locking again. No thanks! This leash is just not worth the aggrevation.UPDATE: 11/02/2015The company quickly and professionally fixed the issue and is sending me a new leash. One of the best companies I have worked with regarding a faulty product!
