The Girls Are Gone: The True Story of Two Sisters Who Vanished, the Father Who Kept Searching, and the Adults Who Conspired to Keep the Truth Hidden

Could not put it down
This true story was written very thoughtfully. I was on pins and needles waiting to see if the girls were found. I didn't want to spoil the book by looking into a search engine. Instead, I read every word on each well written page.

interesting, but too much detail
I found this book very interesting, but could have been shorter. It was interesting to read the actual court room transcription, but after so many hearings it became tedious. In the beginning, with all of the mess these people found themselves in, it was good to read the court information. But, there were just too many trials to have this many transcripts. I would have liked to have the initial ones, then as the book went on just a synopsis of what was happening and who was being charged would have been good. I spent many years working in a Family Court setting and later volunteering in a Child Advocacy setting so I know how crazy these people can be. I find it apprehensible that so many mothers use their children in the way this mother did. Unfortunately, it is all too common. Kudos to the reporters that stayed on this case and did the research to bring out the story.

This was way too long.
This shoulders have been a 300 page book. It kept repeating the same details over and over. Interesting subject but hard to finish.

If it wasn't a true story, it would have been hard to believe.
The story started out very slow, a bit hard to read but I found myself being drawn into the lives of this family.

Life Changing
Extremely well written. Engaging, compassionate, inspiring. Imagine a reporter who actually conducts his life and works his profession based on a moral from which he does not waiver. Imagine this reporter putting the well being of two missing teens, (and the efforts to reunite them with their family) ABOVE any desire to publish a mouth watering tabloid page turner.Imagine this talented reporter actually having a hand in finding the teens & helping them return to their family; and being so committed to the family that he stays with the case until the very end.. Michael Brodkorb & Allison Mann deserve as many accolades as possible for revealing the horrific, complex, years-long debacle that Mr. Rucki & his children endured, & highlighting this familyās resilient, indomitable spirit..

A struggle to read
I had to force myself to finish this book. There are too many court documents that are so boring and could be summarized into 2 sentences. There are so many spelling and grammatical errors, which I am guessing is how the original documents were written. I average a novel per week, but this one was so much longer because it is not an interesting read. I kept at it, while flipping to other novels in between, to keep from being so bored. This could have been so much better if the decision to not use so much meaningless court documents entered word for word. Iām not a quitter, so I pushed through. What a nightmare these children and the courts were put through. It should have been apparent from the beginning someone is mentally challenged.

Makes you think!
Story very good. You makes you see what is crazy in the judicial system. This is move way to slow and with enough money and influence you can just about get away with anything at least tie it up for years! Sad for the innocence that are the victims! Very evident if you just listen to the news. A lot of evil people in this world .

What can I say...
I'd rather watch paint dry.I couldn't even read it all. I finally gave up on page 377,though I wanted to long before. It was repetitive and.coma inducing.I had bought this for .99, which isn't much, but, on a budget it was eeked out because it seemed interesting. It was not. How a story about a mom interfering in the relationship with her children and their father, was so long winded and boring, I dong understand. There were a few errors that I probably wouldn't have noticed if I'd been more engaged in the book. Instead, they just added more irritation and frustration.I ended up going to Google to find out what happened to those involved. The journalist, Michael (whatever)'s part was the worst. He would explain what had happened then added his articles of which he had just explained. This made the book longer than was needed and took me much longer to read than it normally would.Don't read this if it's possible you'll fall asleep and injure yourself. To say I don't recommend this would be putting it too lightly. I implore you to save you sanity and look up online what happened, if your interest. Don't waste any leisure time on this.

Magnificent
This is one of the best story's I've ever read. It's unbelievable how evil some people can be. The unwavering love a father had and continues to have for his children. I.hope you are all happy now and God bless you all

Libro per estate
Testo molto comprensibile ma che si dilunga troppo sui discorsi diretti intercorsi in tribunale . Speravo più in un racconto documentario
