not the touch pad type like on my other cheap thermometer
The Thermobean arrived quickly. It was well packaged and worked right out of the box. Three buttons on the unit are tactile, sealed, momentary push buttons, not the touch pad type like on my other cheap thermometer. One button for on / off, one for C / F and one for hold. The unit also can be turned on by unfolding the probe from it's home position if you turn it on first by the button.Added later: I cooked the garlic roasted chicken quarters recipe from the e-book last night and used the ThermoBean to check the chicken temps. I could not believe how fast it read the temperatures. This is going to be a great addition to my cooking tools.

Nice Thermometer but stopped working soon after 1 year
I really love the design of this thermometer but it started getting error messages (___F) after a year. Changed batteries but no improvement. Sometimes it will start working after I have it turned on for a while or after I fiddle with position of the probe, but that is no help as I need it to be working immediately. I can't buy a new thermometer every year. And I won't be buying one with this folding design again.

Know your temps
This works well but it's annoying that there is no chart anywhere on it that has the appropriate cooking temps for meat. Every other thermometer I've ever had of this type had that one it and I just assumed before I bought this that it would as well. It doesn't. Aside from that it works well and is easy to use. It cleans up nice and I appreciate that I don't have a drawer with a bunch of wire in it from the type that you can put in the meat and leave it in while it cooks as the brain is on the counter, etc. Overall, it was a good purchase. Works well and does what I need but really wish they'd just printed some temps on the darn thing.

Almost, but not quite...
i wanted to love this thermometer because of how its long the reach into a hot oven but it's off by several degrees. I knew it wasn't right on because of the inconsistent outcomes i was getting and comparing it to another short thermometer. A friend who is a professional baker told me to fill a cup with ice and little water and see if I could get it down to zero or 32 degrees (C or F). Sure enough it was above and couldn't register exactly zero (when I could do this with another by comparison). I still use it when its not critical to be perfectly right and it has a nice long reach.

Great Value and easy to use!
This is an easy to use thermometer with a fantastic range and at a great price. Most thermometers at this price would not have the range to be used for regular cooking as well as high temperatures such as when making candy- this little powerhouse can do it all. It does default to Celsius, so you need to push the button once to switch to Fahrenheit, but the push of a button isn't too difficult. I specially like that it does not leave a large hole when checking temp of baked goods. I also like that it shuts off when folded so you can save on the battery. Another plus for this product is that it takes regular batteries.

Not Durable
I bought this a year ago, and although it is a good thermometer, it is not durable. The spot where the metal probe attaches to the plastic sheath has broken twice, which I have salvaged by gluing. The first time I used Gorilla super glue, and the second time I used Duco Cement and created a reinforcing layer. The thermometer still works, surprisingly, but I have no idea how long this will last. The other thing that I didn't like is that if you fold the probe all the way (like a pocket knife), it defaults to metric, which is useless to me.

Love It
Together my wife and I cook a lot; she does the indoor meals and I do the grilling/smoking. We use this thermometer a ton and we love it. "Instant Read" is a bit of a stretch but you can watch the temperature change when you place the probe in the meat and it usually reaches the accurate temperature within about 15 seconds. I find it very accurate as I despise overcooked meat and don't want to ruin any of it. We love it

Reliable but not exactly instant
I have gone through so many meat thermometers. I don't know if I just have the worst luck or if they really are all garbage. This is the first one I've owned that I felt really confident about the temp it showed. I love the folding design! The only hiccup I've had is that it took FAR longer than 5 seconds to give me a temp on my meatloaf. I held it in place for at least 30 seconds and the temp just kept going up and up by a degree at a time. That also meant a lot of heat escaping from my oven.
