Scholastic Discover More: Night Sky

My son picked this one as he's really interested in space these days. It has a lot of great images and more info than a regular just go over each planet in the solar system book. My son also downloaded the free ebook onto his Nexus 7 and loves having that as well

This is a great book, full of information and interesting facts, but not too complicated for older kids (not full of scientific terms and math). Great fun and easy to understand. Have used it several times already with my grandchildren.

Great introductory book to astronomy for all ages, but especially good for inquisitive young minds.

There are a lot of very good books for kids on astronomy out there but this new one titled "Night Sky" by Giles Sparrow and published by Scholastic Books comes highly recommended. Kids and astronomy get along like a house on fire. Youngsters are generally inclined to be curious about the natural world and the universe at large and they also like lots of cool images. Astronomy, being very much a visual as well as a conceptual science, benefits from good illustrations and this book is loaded with both accurate and good explanatory text as well as beautiful images of a variety of celestial objects. The text is quite readable (Sparrow is a UK freelance writer who specializes in astronomy books for kids) and the book benefits from having a glossary for the technical terms that might prove troublesome. I really like the layout of the star and constellation spreads that highlight many of the important deep sky objects (although I would like to have seen distinctions made between objects that can be viewed with the naked eye and binoculars from those that require a telescope). All in all I have to say this book will make a good gift for the young science/astronomy enthusiast aged 8 and up (I will even say that many an adult beginner in astronomy will enjoy it as well) and stands as a good buy on it's own or to go along with a decent beginner's telescope.

A must read

Really colourful pictures, informative text, very good condition as a second hand book, will be a christmas present so will see what a five year old thinks of it then !

Can't get bored after getting these books.
