Sauder Office Port Hutch, Dark Alder finish

Purchased two hutch units along with three library cabinets from Amazon. The units came very well packed with bumper guards on the box corners and wrapped in shrinkwrap. Assembly was fast, parts were all there, and the instructions were complete. Fit and finish left a bit to be desired though and this is the first time I've ever been disappointed in Sauder products. The dark finish against the lighter particle board color highlighted slight edge mismatches. Same to be said for the dark edges against a lighter finished edge on melamine joints. A number of the pieces had blemishes, scratches, and chips, and a couple even had cracked (although once assembled these cracked areas were somewhat supported so I didn't bother returning the items.) IMPORTANT TIP: Do yourself a favor and purchase a Minwax Stain Pen in Dark Walnut. Run the pen along any unfinished particle board edges and also on melamine joints. It does wonders to hide the poor fit and finish, and any scratches and chips. Also, I bought these from Amazon and bought the matching desk and lateral file from Office Depot. Office Depot's pricing was way out of whack. They had the hutch ON SALE for $139, down from a stated MSRP of $159. Sauder.com had the MSRP listed at $85! The library cabinet pricing was similar, but Amazon was a little more expensive for the desk and lateral file. Check those prices people!

I like the hutch well, it matches the set perfectly and gives me a fantastic place to store books and several keepsakes. The shelves are deep and can hold a lot. There are cord management holes in the back that can be punched out if needed as well, so you could put electronics on the shelves as well. The shelves have a lot of adjustment possibilities, so it will suit my needs perfectly.If I could have, I would have only taken away 1/2 star, but since I can't, my only reason for not giving 5 stars is that when you are sitting at the desk and look to the shelves, the underside is unfinished. The tops of the shelves are finished, just not the underside. The rest of the furniture pieces in the set where the undersides of a shelf are seen have either a finished underside or glass shelves. I have ordered some contact paper to cover this as I'm sure no one will be looking too closely, however, the way it is now, the light mdf color stands out from the dark wood tone of the rest of the hutch.

It's fine for the price, no qualms there. I will say that if you buy it off of amazon and want to return it then there is no free options like many other products. I would hope you could take it to Kohls or amazon drop off for free but that is not an option.

Note: The bottom part is sold seperately. I bought both parts.Exactly what I was looking for to clean up my living room space. Fairly easy to assemble. Some parts aren't perfectly aligned even after following the instructions carefully, not sure why (hence 4 stars instead of 5). But you can't tell unless you look for it so it's not a big deal. It looks beautiful.

As you can see it’s a book shelf but can be used to display pictures and keep sales. The design is nice but the quality could have been better.

ok in the quality -- easy to build...... here's the oddity.... i was looking at a lot of different hutches. i saw this listing and thought BOTH parts were included...but i was wrong only the upper portion was being sold. i saw other listings that had both-- i felt like i was deceived...

Easy to assemble compared to outhe furniture like this I have had. Fair qualify for price. You will need atouch up pen to go around edges. They are lighter and make it look cheap, easy to do though.

I purchased the hutch and the base. They arrived promptly, however, there were two pieces on the base that were cracked. I called the Sauder 800# and before I even said what parts, she said "don't tell me parts A and B" so evidently this has happened before. She was very nice and promised we would receive the missing parts in 2-4 days which we did. Now that it is assembled, I really like it, Very nice piece of furniture for the price. Very glad I bought it.
