My girls love this book
I use this book for my girls 5 & 6. I agree that it's an easy read for both of them but we use it to expand on. We read a topic and then look up videos and other information to expand. It's perfect for a simple guide, not to solely educate. It covers some topics I didn't think of. As far as the questions not being being the topic; some of the questions are out of the box and I think it's to get them to think creatively. I do wish the stories were longer but what we do is research and continue the story.

Awesome!
Great learning tool! It promotes independent learning! My son actually looks forward to doing his work book. He always want to show off what he just learned to his older brother.

Good structure, very low quality content
Text presents short passages followed by multiple choice questions, also one question where the answer must be written. Unfortunately, there are questions that are completed unsupported in the text or require the student to rely on outside knowledge. Also, it is a HUGE stretch to say that the story meets the science standard or benchmark that is identified at the top of the page for the educator.Example: There is a short story about whales, with a drawing of a dolphin at a sea park. Three of the 7 questions are unsupported by the text --One question asks if the whale does a trick first or if the man teaches the whale a trick: There is no man in the story (there is a drawing of a woman directing the dolphin), and at the end of the story is the sentence "They can learn tricks."Another question asks how a whale is different from a fish and the choices are "All fish live in fresh water" or "A fish is not a mammal". There is no discussion in the text about fresh or salt water, and the text states "Whales are not fish. Whales are mammals, just like us." The student still needs to know from other sources that fish are not mammals (and this is not a good way of teaching them that). Finally, another question is "What trick might a sea park whale do?" and the choices are jump through a joop or sing a song. No hoops mentioned in the story (just "tricks") and also "They make sounds to 'talk'". Not sure how the student would know the correct answer. This passage supposedly meets science standards by "Understands how species depend on one another and on the environment for survival" and the benchmark "Knows that living things are found almost everywhere in the world and that distinct environments support the life of different types of plants and animals." I call BS on this. This is only one example, the rest of the book is equally hit or miss/mediocre. We're tossing this workbook.

Uninspired passages, weakly-worded questions
I purchased this book because I was looking for a good comprehension skills book that featured non-fiction passages. Although the book claims to include standards and benchmarks (which are impressively worded for each passage), these are irrelevant when the passages themselves are so uninspired. My first grader (who reads above grade level) found the passages boring and uninteresting and I cannot help but agree. The questions sometimes appear awkwardly phrased, and it would have been much better if each question had a tag under it, indicating if it was a factual, inference, or main idea-type question. This is going into the recycle bin. Instead, I found the following book to be very useful for building comprehension skills: Reading Comprehension, Grade 2 (Master Skills)

non-sense questions
I used to buy Daily Warmup serial for my older son, and they're pretty good. I bought this book for my 6 yrs old son and found it isn't as good as I expect. Most of the questions are non-sense and unrelated to the paragraph.

Excellent book but font size has to larger for the text
The book is excellent for my Senior Kindergarten child who is going to grade 1 in September 2019.The only issue is that the font size is quite small. It is really recommended to print larger font size like 12 for the text. Otherwise, excellent resource.
