Seems well made and performs well - though mine is labeled ETEKCITY MSR-U1000
I bought this to replace a dying Gardner Bender meter I've had for a long time. This unit feels better than that, with more solid feel to the knob.Quickly measuring lots of random things around the house it seems to be pretty accurate. I tested:1) DC volts on batteries2) A/C volts and HZ at wall outlet (HZ via blue knob on V setting - don't try this on the HZ setting since that is only good for 30v!)3) hFE on a 2N404 transistor4) resistors from 22 ohms to 32 Mohms5) capacitors from .001 to 88ufAll seemed within the tolerances of the device being measured.I can also validate that the input impedance on the mV scale is very high, as I measured the "ohms" a .05 uF capacitor then switched to V mode. I could watch the voltage on the capacitor very slowly bleed off from .380 to .370 over about a minute and a half. This implies an internal resistance of about 100,000 Mohms, though only "around >3000 Mohms".Seems a little slower than I'm used to return to zero when finished with a DC voltage measurement, but with a high internal resistance like it should have, this may be a fact of life. The only "bad" thing is that the picture and title says "UT61A" (which seems to be a different companies model number), though when it arrived mine clearly is marked ETEKCITY and MSR-U1000". However, it seems to match the picture (other than the brand appearing and the different model number) and matches the specs of the unit shown, but it is a little concerning that it is labelled as a different model number. Perhaps someone got a cease and desist order for the matching model numbers? Anyway, I'm very happy with the initial impressions of the meter.I'd buy it again (as long as I don't have to buy it again within a few years.. <grin>)

Great hobbyist meter at a great price!
This meter is NOT cat II/III rated, so it is inappropriate for professional electricians, and is NOT guaranteed safe for mains power work, HOWEVER it's an excellent deal for the electronics hobbyist! Very large feature set, surprisingly high quality construction, easy to read display, fairly quick auto-ranging, a good, loud beeper for continuity test, better than average claimed accuracy (seems to meet the spec, too!), and a manual that's better written than most Chinese-English translations. Not a pro meter, but a solid value for the hobbyist. I bought one of these for my work (light-industrial operations and general trouble-shooting) about a year ago, and it has held up perfectly so far, now I've bought one for myself too. I expect the average electronics hobbyist will get many years of use out of this meter.it would be nice if the back light was manually controlled, rather than having a 25-second auto-shutoff, but for the price, the fact that it even HAS a back light is impressive.

Great Meter
I have been using this for a while now and so far it works great. I am an electrician and have many different types, and brands of test meters. I prefer my Fluke most of all but like to keep other meters around. This meter, for the price seems like a quality meter. It is solid and feels like a quality build. I need to make sure I can replace the fuses easily but in my sixteen years of being an electrician I have blown only one fuse. One thing I find odd is the reading it gives when the leads are not connected. See pictures. My flukes stay at zero. When I connect to power, like an outlet, it gives the correct reading. I haven't tried all the functions yet but so far I would recommend this meter for the novice to professional.

Great unit (especially for auto mechanics that don't wanna drop 299 on a Fluke
I work as a tech for Honda and for auto purposes; this thing is great. I almost exclusively use the dc volt and amp and ohms portions (sorry comma button is broken on this keyboard) and occasionally use the AC measurements on alternators but so far this thing has been everything I hoped it would. The only reason I don't give this a 5 star rating ... and this could be operator error or just a lack of knowledge ... is that when reading milivolts (dc) there is a ghost voltage that constantly blips across the screen until the leads are connected to whatever you are testing. The readings are accurate (i've tested with my foreman's Fluke) but it bugs me that these ghost voltages show when the leads should just read 0.L.I'm not the only one that has noted this. In other comments someone else has said the same thing. My only other concern with this unit is that I hear if you manage to blow the fuse in this unit it is hard to find the correct replacement

very useful meter
This meter has been working great. I really like the auto ranging, I have owned and still own other volt meters but this is the first one with auto ranging and it does make it easier and simpler to use.So far I have used the volt meter and the electric magnetic meter.with Volt readings you have a second button to go from ac to dc and this could confuse someone using the meter if they dont look closely at the settings and just turn the rotary switch to volts.using the "EF probe" you can tell if a wire or wall plug has AC power going to it without touching it. It will not give you a voltage but you can tell if a plug or beaker panel is live. The back light works well, I will never buy a meter without a back light some how I always end up trying to use them in the dark. even if you dont buy this meter buy one with a light for the screen you will be glad you did.The display is large and the numbers are clear. There are meters that cost less but they dont do all the things this one does. I would buy it again.
