These are fantastic purpose-built amps!! I bought the original Strum Buddy about a week ago with the intention of using it primarily on my acoustic electrics guitars. Sitting in front of the boob tube, noodling around, I bought it to give some flexibility playing slide blues to give it some crunch, and the chorus & reverb to add some variety, without having to drag out an amp, etc. My latest previous purchase was a NU-X mighty lite, and I bought it for the same purpose, but you still need to plug in, etc. These don't have the same quality and flexibility that amp has, but I didn't buy it for that. That these stick to your guitar, have built in recharge, and a short cord to connect it is incredibly freeing.I bought THIS one a day later, as soon as I found out it existed! So I own both of them. This metal version is also amazing! The overdrive is tight and punchy. The phaser is full, the reverb is perfect. This amp is FANTASTIC on my 7 stringers and it sure beats noodling around on an unamplified axe.Aside from the great idea of putting this into a suction cup package, what really amazes and surprised me is that the effects on both of these amps are dialed into a great setting that for the most part works for everything. By that I mean the overdrive is crunchy, punchy, and sounds great. It's a single setting, unchangeable, on or off. Same with the phaser, so many possible settings could have been settled on but this one is really the best it gets for an on/off choice. The reverb absolutely shines through. It again is set perfect as can be for an on/off setting. Not too much, not weak, it's dialed in and sounds great. It works great on leads as well, works like a well-set delay to fill in and richen up the sound. That they got the effects right on both of these, as on/off choices is just amazing and shows these folks really thought about this and tested them well before just throwing in features to sell an item.The volume is also on/off, not adjustable. At first I wasn't thrilled with this, but the volume of the units is again, just right! It's plenty loud, but not over loud, and not too soft. I'm just fine with all the settings that have been chosen for these brilliant little amps.These are great amps, and if you're buying this for the purpose they were intended, I very much doubt you'll be anything but thrilled with the performance and the freedom these give you to noodle anywhere in style. The price point is right on the money and I'm really happy I bought them both. This one is perfect for your axes, and the original is perfect for your acoustic electrics (and possibly for your axes depending on what style you like to play).One caveat is there is no case included. I went and bought some "extra small" size camera lens cases, one for each, and they're perfect to hold them securely and safely. Consider grabbing one in addition to this amp, there are many here on Amazon to choose from.Thanks for bringing a great idea to life, and doing it so well!

I have the first strum buddy so I thought I would give the heavy metal version a try. Both have a really cool different sounds. I find both too harsh when turning your guitar volume all the way up but the magic happens when you dial back the volume. I rarely use my Fender GT amp now, because of the portability I use one of the strum buddies all the time. No more hassle of moving your amp, plugging in, dialing a bunch of different settings. The strum buddies are the ultimate in simplicity and I find I can dial in any tone just using my guitar volume, tone settings - pretty amazing. My guitar is an elite strat so I have the s1 switch and bypass - i.e lot of pick up sounds. The first strum buddy has a different sound, kind of bluesy if I had to describe. I would not have called the metal one heavy metal - maybe hard rock - van halen, 80s hair rock. But I think the tones you can get make it, its own unique portable amp, many different clean sounds you can get and distortion with volume turned down gives a different effect also. I thought I would try and send back but I am using both. One of the best things about it is no battery and ability to recharge via USB. I tried a lot of other mini amps - orange, boss, blackstar etc. and I don't think any of them sounds as good as the strum buddies and even if they did the ease of plugging in and moving around the house and backyard makes the strum buddy the winner. I think another unintended cool feature is the coiled cord that comes with it, the suction gives way sometimes when playing but if you let it dangle it gives almost like swirling a tube amp sound. I would say buy both!

The Strum Buddy Metal is great, I love the overdrive effect on it. It was surprisingly louder than I expected.It works great with P90 pickups (SC junior) and with hot humbuckers (Hofner Shorty). Haven't tested it with singles (Fender Strat) yet.Unfortunately, it appears I received an open box item, even though I bought a NEW item. Someone removed the box content and repacked it (I do not know if it was used)

This item is for personal use. Not for performance situations of course.. Provides easy, portable personal amplification for electric guitars, which is why I bought it.. Allows me to randomly test electric guitars to make sure the electronics are working properly at Pawnshops, Flea Markets, Garage Sales, or a local Craig's list meet ups, before a purchase is made. No need to endure the fuss of setting up a full size amp, and having an electrical outlet handy. This unit can be charged via USB. Effects are "ok". Nothing to write home about. The "metal" sound is anemic, which is to be expected from an item this small where the unit has no separate volume control. Volume is controlled by the volume knob on your guitar. The lower you turn down the volume knob on your guitar, (think Gain control) the more anemic the "metal" tone generated. Buy it only for the portability and convenience factor.

In my personal opinion I think that this sounds better when I play with it on my acoustic guitar without the distortion, so beautiful sounding. Don't get me wrong because this little amp sounds great slapped on an electric with distortion too. The best part about this little amp is that it is rechargeable and beyond portable! You won't be disappointed.

I absolutely love this little gem . I was quite surprised and impressed about how my guitar sounds now ! Love for practicing! Will purchase the other one they have now , this metal version is awesome ! Great work guys! One happy player

I’ve been using a little black star battery amp for a few years it great but not as portable as the strum buddy I seen this and had to get one. Sounds good it’s portable and rechargeable. You can get different sounds using your tone and volume knobs. Great for noodling in the back yard or watching tv. I will definitely get the other one soon as possible.
