I have to admit that before reading LET LOVE HAVE THE LAST WORD I knew very little about Common's backstory or his life outside of acting and music. What I got from the book is a deeper understanding of not just who the man is but what drives him. It's love.In so many ways this book is not just his story but his understanding of the world and what makes us who we are, especially if your goal is to be better today than you were yesterday. After talking about the brilliance that is John Coltrane Common writes: "I wonder what inspired him: I wonder what inspires all of us to transform, to evolve, to become better versions of ourselves. "His understand of the power of God and the love of God also comes out through the book when looking at himself and his relationships. "Love requires daily practice, and commitment, and effort," he writes. "Love is felt, yes, but it isn't self-sustained just because of the biological bond between parent and child. Everything in love requires work. Everything."And that to me is the big message of the book. If you want something, no matter what it is, then it requires action on your part. You have work to do in order to get it. The question becomes are you willing to put in that work: in bettering yourself, in bettering your relationships and in bettering yourself professionally. If you lead with love then you will win. And that is a message the world definitely can benefit from right now.

The media could not be loaded.  I like this book because it gave me a deeper overstanding of how men process love and their desire to be their best version for their children, family and friend all while balancing life and careers.I bought this book because I wanted to hear a male’s perspective on love as I navigate the dating scene.Common inspired me to trust the process of dating men that look like him. My desire is to meet, love and cherish a brown man with over-standing of his fears and challenges that comes with life in his shoes….as well as having the trust to allow my heart to receive him with an open and mature emotional intelligence.

Common writes about love life and the delicate blend of all things good in this easy feel good read. His perspective is easy to relate to. His words are easy to understand. I don't purchase books that much anymore. I don't really have the means to buy all the books I want to have but this book just grabbed my attention and I'm glad it did. I can't wait to read it again.

I only knew Common as a great rapper and actor. After I finished reading his book, I now can say he is a wonderful author. He keeps his testimony simple, humbled, and honest. I was able to connect to him as he spoke in detail about his insecurities as a parent. He was vulnerable and open about his own doubts. Many of those doubts I share too. His writing reminded me to be gentle and know there are great times of doubt even when all is going well. I also learned that even if those outside ask and see me for who they want me to be, I need to stay true to myself and learn to have love as the the last word in my own life. It is a great read, especially a reminder to slow down and enjoy the moments. That is when love is most present.

I loved this book! Learning more about an individual and receiving an important message from it is what books should be about. I got a tattoo based off the lessons I found most vital from reading this piece! Well done

How could this gentleman possibly find love elusive? Common brings conscious verses, righteousness, earthly wisdom, and honesty.Women complain about men guarding their emotions as if they have none. Here for all to see, barring fear of scrutiny, he dares mull over, dissect, analyze, reflect, and dig for whatever truths he can find that can serve to explain to him—what love means, what love requires, what love does. What is love’s authentic reward? Love's action.As an actor, he can portray the king, the handsome prince, or warrior who'll save the day. He is as captivating in this tome as he is on the big screen. Let Love Have the Last Word: A Memoir is beautifully-written, somber introspection, offering sobering hope.

such a beautifully written, raw, intimate, and deeply personal + moving book. i loved him as a rapper and actor, and now i love him even more as a real person, a person who loves hard, falls down, makes mistakes, and gets back up in the name of God and love. this book has truly changed my entire life, especially my personal meaning of love, and what it means to love. thank you so much Common for writing such an amazing book!! i loved every single bit of it. :-)

I LOVED this book I highly recommend it one the best reads I’ve encountered in a while. Common really come through on this book, he poured his heart and soul into this book. Makes you want reconnect your love with God and loved ones. Lessons learned through life by seeing it through another lense. He opened about some deep hurtful and personal pain he went through. Please buy this book. I will be re reading this book again.
