Great tool to learn blending techniques
This is one of three coloring books I bought for my granddaughter, and the only color-by-number book. There are tons of detail in each picture, but the number guidelines make it really easy to choose the right colors. This is a great book for a beginner to learn blending techniques, and to gain some confidence before moving on to unnumbered pictures, or free-style drawing. I will say that the numbers are really small, and I had to use a magnifying glass with the page I was coloring. But my granddaughter didn’t have any problems seeing them, and she kept laughing at me as I picked up my magnifying glass every minute, or so. Pages are perforated so they can be easily torn out of the book, which is especially nice if you’ll be sharing. We only used watercolor pencils with this one, so I don’t know how badly color would bleed through to the next page with pens. However, I can say that the water didn’t cause any of the pages to warp or crinkle. These are really nice drawings and make for beautiful, vibrant pictures.

Great book if you put in a bit of extra work.
This is a great item and provides very colorful pictures. You can follow the numbered color chart included on the inside covers or you can choose your own colors. They provide thumbnail pictures to show you how the picture will come out if you use their color choices. You just have to match the markers, pens or pencils that you own to the color provided on the chart as close as possible. Markers are not included with the book. The only issue I had was that the numbers were printed kind of heavy. I realize this was necessary to be able to see them but that means when you color over them the number is visible thru the color. I had this issue with markers so imagine that the numbers would really glare thru if you are using colored pencils or gel pens. I had to try to artfully shade the area where the number was to try to draw attention away from it.In the future I plan to copy the picture out to a picture editing software like Paint.net. There I wipe out all the numbers and print it out onto heavier cardstock paper. Then I have an image that is free of numbers but can use the picture in the book as a guide for choosing colors. If you don't mind seeing the numbers thru the ink and/or don't mind putting the extra time in to copy the images and clean the numbers away then this is a fantastic book.

Nice way to relax
I am happy with this purchase. The pages in this book have some fun sea life images. There is a color guide that will work with markers, crayons, watercolors, acrylics, or pencils, on the inside front cover (pictured). The paper is thin for watercolor, but will work for most mediums. I am using the Steadtler triplus fine dry safe markers. The caps match the color boxes on the inside cover nearly exact, however, I find that the inks in this line of pen do not match the caps very well. So, it can be frustrating depending on what you choose to use - personally, I don't care because I am coloring to feel better, not to make a fantastic piece of art. Face it, if I could do that, I wouldn't need a color by number to do it.The pages are scored so that they can be cleanly removed from the book, and colored on a clip board or other tool you may have. If you want to have a water color copy for yourself (No breaking laws and cheating the author! Copy for yourself only or it is not nice.), you can remove the page and copy onto a watercolor paper without having to bend the book and get shadows on the copy. I like that the pages come out cleanly since they ARE one sided, and this can eliminate possible bleed through that could ruin the picture under it.What is frustrating for an adult who has not colored in a while is that there are spots that have no number. I thought these spots should possibly be left white for that light effect on the fish or coral. But when I referenced the small colored pbotos inside the two covers, there are some spots that SHOULD be left white for hilighting, and the other spots were clearly just not numbered but needed to be colored. For this I have taken away a star. I felt that if I had given this to a younger child, they may have more experience coloring than I, and be fine with it, but for someone that hasn't colored in iver 35 years, I was not sure what to do, so left the unnumbered areas uncolored. I have included two closeups where you can see some small and large areas not numbered. Some are sulosed to remain uncolored, and some I colored in later. So just know that the small reference pictures are helpful for more than just "oh - that is what it looks like finished" ...or "what if I don't have the exact color; will it ruin the design?" - you will need to reference these pictures for, "do I color or leave white?".I think this is a great way to empty your mind because you are not perseverating of color choices in your mandala, you just match the color and find all of those numbers. I catch myself repeating, "15, 15, 15,...." as I look around the picture to be sure I got them all with the same marker.Give the book or ine of the others a try. It is really a nice experience, and an inexpensive gift. Because the pages are detachable, it can be a rainy/snowy - or no electricity time passer for the family to each get a page and color together.

Liked it
The "numbers" on the paint by numbers were too small and faded to even see what they were.

Fun and Relaxing after a long day
The pictures look great in the end and there are enough pages to keep you busy coloring for at least 100 hours. Its great to take your mind off things and unwind without the stress of picking colors or blending, definitely would recommend

So much fun!
While I am trying to improve my artistic abilities, I mostly just want to have fun with art. Sketching is difficult, so this book makes it fun to take a break from time to time to apply color to something that is artfully drawn and becomes quite beautiful as you complete it. I am using water based markers as a base and finishing with colored pencil. Great fun! Beautiful drawings!
