Perfect tool - a little extra dough knowledge needed
Good hardwood material. The embossed roller spins on a solid spindle. The imprints are not deep like you would see with more traditional springerle blocks, but after watching some online videos, the use of confectioners sugar to dust the roller and the top of the cold dough reduced the chances of dough sticking to the roller. After rolling on cold sheet pan, marble, or dusted wax paper, I used cookie cutters as I normally would. I also allowed the dough to dry for a couple of hours to harden the design into the dough surface. A thin dough produced the best results. Also embossed pie dough and cut into strips for pie top or dumpling cover. Gave these as gifts to my “grandma” friends. The size is perfect for small hands and children.

Doesn't leave enough of an impression in the dough because by time you bake the cookies you can no longer see the pattern
