Not much of an improvement over older models (e.g. Go 6000 or 6100)
Its a good Satnav especially if you are dependent on traffic updates (like I do). Updates over WiFi are nice but not essential as the Satnav needs to be plugged into power to update. If it needs a cable plugged in, it might as well be plugged in a computer's USB port and update over the app.The good:Nice big screenTraffic updatesClear on screen instructionsWiFi updates for the uber lazy user who finds powering a PC to update too time consumingIFTTT for the uber geek - moi included in this category. You can easily live without itThe bad:Virtually no upgrade in terms of speed in comparison with my old trusty Tom Tom Go 6000 (over 6 years old). C'mon all mobile processors tripled in clock speeds and core counts since then.Slow to boot, slow to find the routeLags when given commands (e.g. <touch menu><1 second lag><menu appears><unit unresponsive for 1 sec><touch search><1 second lag>)... you get the picture. Really needs a processor/OS updateOccasional freezes - resolved by restarting - not so great in trafficLoses mobile signal (used for traffic updates) even in some areas in London - which makes it a "dumb" satnav (as opposed to "smart").The ugly:Still thicker than rivals. If most smartphones can pack 10x the processing power and memory into a packages 1/3 the thickenss one wonders why the "Premium X" still looks like it has been plucked from a musem of "electronics in the early 2000s".Overall I'd still buy it because there's nothing else on the market that does the traffic thingie in a way that is useful, clear and useable. I used Garmins until TomTom came up with the traffic updates and never went back. However if you have a smartphone that you dont mind using for nav and have unlimited data usage (so you dont' have to worry about the traffic updates eating into your data plan) an app on the phone will probably serve you equally well or better.

Voice control abysmal and it fails to find addresses that it has in its database
I have only had this unit a few months now, I was enticed to change to Tom Tom because of the screen and Graphics experienced using a Tom Tom unit on a recent trip abroad. The initial set-up went smoothly enough and most of the features work absolutely fine, most! The unit I bought, their top of the range unit had automatic traffic and unit updates by cellular connection, except it just doesn't work, performing the updates manually on a wifi network works fine but that really defeats the purpose of paying extra for the lifetime traffic support. The voice control usually takes a few attempts using the "hello Tom Tom" wake phrase before it drags itself into life but even once it's there it's almost laughable trying to get it to find an address although the success rate increases somewhat whenever the car is stopped and there is no wind noise. Lastly, there have been several streets that the unit refuses to find under verbal or manual searches even though it will correctly display the street name once you've arrived there. I know this has only happened on 5 or 6 occasions so far but I've only searched for maybe 50 or so addresses, absolutely frustrating to use, to the point I have re-instated my old Garmin unit, which is a little old and clunky by today's standards, BUT IT WORKS!

A disappointing unboxing experience.
After looking forward to receiving my new satnav, I was disappointed to discover that upon opening every single item had either been swapped out or was missing. The packaged Satnav was an older variant with scratches and marks on the rear, certainly not the expected GO Premium unit; the double 12v adapter, TomTom magnetic mount and TomTom USB cable were all missing - in their place a ratchet spanner held in place by parcel tape; the premium leather carry case had been replaced by a generic nylon case and both the instructions manual and screen protector were missing. The associated photo shows a comparison of what I received in my first package against the contents of a second identical unit purchased directly from TomTom.

Go Premium X 6”
Having been a TomTom customer for 15 yrs I was disappointed with the Newest model.1) slow to go from map to controls to input addresses or anything, same once input data slow to return to map. In 2019 we should be able to have enough processor speed and memory to do this without delay.. this is sadly not the case2) When “saving a location” you touch the screen, name and then have to go to the menu to find “ recent locations “ and then re-save into “ my places” .. a cumbersome method and hardly easy to do while on the go. It’s easy to forget to do it later if you are a regular user.3)No user POIs. It used to be you could save locations in “favourites “ and the segregate them into say work, Scotland, or whatever now this is gone and you have one long list of “ my places” which you have to scroll though to find which you want to use. Dreadful.4) GUI. Graphical user interface is not very friendly when it comes saving a location.. maybe it “ big fingers “ but it wasn’t easy to save a location. I found on a few occasions I needed to try again to get it right.5) Volume is also buried in the main input menu. Unlike earlier software you could still see the map while adjusting the volume. Which is agin not very loud at max volume.6) Bluetooth was easy to connect but often found my audio was poor and I “sounded bad or like I was in a tin can” So this really wasn’t very useful. Again after so many years I would expect TomTom could have done better7) Traffic data sometimes it was okay but it let me go into traffic jams without warning a few times and they hadn’t “ just happened “. Checking on WAZE it was reporting the issues more than my TomTom Premium X8) It lacked a quick way to avoid issues identifying road closures from Motorway Electronic Signs. For example if it says the motorway is closed from Junction 10-12 and you are approaching say currently at junct 8 you should be able to ask to avoid so leave at junction 9 and rejoin at junction 12 or after... no option. Not very useful9) ... no I will stop because there is more but I was so very disappointed. These are just unbelievable things that should be addressed if they want to continue selling standalone Car GPS. Not even being able to set any restrictions such as height, length or even single track roads is also just not acceptable. You can have this but need to buy a caravan or truck model gps with another £100 or so premium. It’s just amazing that they think these are worth it.I always liked my GPS from TomTom. But this one disappointed me so I returned it and hated doing it because I loved the internal sim idea and WiFi map updates ( unfortunately mine also crashed after an update and was rebooting for 12 hours in the car needless to say I wasn’t able to use it that day and had to return it as it wouldn’t restart) .I’m only sharing so maybe you won’t be surprised if you decide to order. I found on a few gps items the same reviews for different models and that’s not helpful
