Recommended for art history lovers
Baroque: architecture, sculpture, painting is a book of HF Ullmann Publishing from "The Essence of Culture" series edited by the renowned editor Rolf Toman. The publication definitely fulfilled my expectations. It is lavishly illustrated with many photographs of high quality. The thing I like most about this book is that it is an easy read although the articles are written by experts in their fields who use professional art historical and architectural terminology but in a understandable manner. The tome offers a vast view of baroque architecture and art in Europe which why I highly recommend it to art history students such as myself but also every enthusiast interested in the scenographic and magnificent world of baroque art. Seriously thinking of purchasing rest of the tomes from the series. On the binding of the book the word architecture is misspelled, but I think that we shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Also, in my opinion, more chapters in the book are considered with architecture than sculpture and painting.

Another Gorgeous Book
I purchased this book along with the Gothic: Architecture, Sculpture, Painting (the "Gothic book")of the same series to use as some inspiration for my illustration. The prints are even smaller than the Gothic book, though, if you are planning to "read" the book, rather than "watching" the photos. The photos are big and of great quality, and aesthetically very pleasing too. However, I personally like the Gothic book better than this particular one. When compared to the Gothic book, I felt there are far too many "paintings" and lacked the photos for "architecture" in this volume. Don't get me wrong, though. There are actually many photos for the cathedrals and all. I might have felt "lacking" because I am not particularly fond of Baroque painting styles (so easily get bored looking at them and start skipping pages) and also was particularly looking for the architecture images (for the aforementioned reason). Nonetheless, it's a great purchase.

Stunning photos of interiors, exteriors, and some of the gardens of palaces, cathedrals, and villas.
Absolutely stunning photos of great Baroque palaces, cathedrals, and villas. Also includes sculpture and paintings. I am particularly interested in the Baroque and Rococo architecture and thoroughly enjoyed the photos of the interiors and exteriors of the buildings and also the photos of the gardens. The book includes buildings from Italy, France, Britain, Germany, Austria, Holland, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden, Eastern Europe, and Russia. Well worth having! My only criticism is that the lettering for the text is a bit on the small side -- I would guess it is must be around 8 point. I guess that's the price for having a lot of information packed into a book this size.

Excellent Coverage of the Baroque Style
Rolf Toman is one of the masters of the architectural history of Europe. His books are massive and thorough. This is no exception to the rule. It covers all three aspects of the Baroque style, which were highly integrated in their time and should not be isolated from each other. The text, as always is scholarly, but highly readable. The illustrations, in color, are also excellent. For those interested in any or all three of the aspects of the Baroque style, then this book should serve as a keystone in your library.

A wonderful addition to anybody's library!
What a beautiful book! It's sitting on my coffee table just waiting for someone to open it up and drool over all of the stunning pictures and to read about this fascinating time in our history. It would be a wonderful addition to anyone's library!

Numerous, quality photos, but with an obvious typo on the cover
Although the majority of the pictures are smaller than I had hoped, they are high quality, and numerous. I gave it 4/5 stars because there is a typographical error on the spine. Instead of saying "architecture" it says "architectuce". Unfortunately, this caused a major loss of credibility before I even opened the book.

Another Toman Victory
Rolf Toman is the editor of a series of art books, published by H.F. Ullmann, that feature architecture, sculpture, and painting in various periods and styles. The books are beautifully crafted with outstanding color photographs of churches, cathedrals, and other magnificent buildings, which showcase the possibilities of the style under consideration. Baroque is another victory for Toman. Furthermore, the volumes are very reasonably priced, no, they are amazing bargains. I already own three titles, and I plan to purchase others.

Very good overall view of the Baroque age
Very good overall view of the Baroque age, except it did not include the style of music that was created at this time.
