Not for parents who dislike wordy children’s books
This review is based on my opinion and not so much my child’s...but half the battle with books for my kids is that they don’t drive me absolutely crazy having to read them over and over again. This book drove me absolutely crazy and I only read it once. Like it made me feel so angry that I needed my own anger management book to recover with afterwards haha. It is EXTREMELY repetitive...like 6-7 pages in a row have the same exact pictures saying the same thing and that is my #1 thing that annoys me in children’s books. I understand kids work best with repetition but com’mon, there HAS to be a limit. Also, there are A LOT of words. I don’t want to come across as a lazy parent but also I’m not trying to read my toddler chapter books before bed when we got 7 books to go through. Luckily my 2.5 year old was bored after the second repetition of the story so I was saved from having to finish it.

Works as a jumping off point for discussing feelings with a 3 year old.
I bought this book for my 3 year old who has problems getting very angry and throwing a huge fit on the daily at home and at school. We are striving to teach him to take a breath before he looses it. I am very happy with this book. It has nice pictures and situational descriptions of the way he feels when he's angry. It goes deeper that some tantrum books. I know for my son when he's in a meltdown he's completely lost control its basically not even him.The book address the feeling of not being in control of your own body which I think resonates with him. I'm not sure he's fully able to grasp all of the exercises tightening muscles and everything. I usually just read the face and feet ones and skip the rest. It makes the book much more manageable for him attention span wise. More than anything it gives us a great starting point for discussing his own feelings and responses which I am very thankful for.

Best book!
I am writing this review as a mom of a 5 and 7 year old, as well as a school social worker. This is truly on my list of top books for children. I read this book to my son whenever he is angry, or frustrated or even hyper and needs to settle down. We are now at the point where he will tell me he is angry and wants to read the angry octopus. It is a long book, but it is meant to be- as it is teaching children how to be mindful of their bodies- and relax each part to ensure they are calm, cool collected, and able to make choices froma good place, rather than an angry one. When we read this last week, I interchanged the word angry for anxious- and it worked perfectly as well.I encourage every parent and teacher to buy this book. It is a gift not only to yourself (because trust me, your body will relax while you are reading it to your child), but is also a gift to your child who will now have the needed life skills to calm themselves down when upset.

Therapeutic Child Friendly PMR
This is therapeutic for some kids- I am always unsure how hyperactive kids will react to progressive muscle relaxation, but 4/5 clients I've used this with have really enjoyed it, been able to self-calm & follow along, and even became so relaxed that they were yawning (and not bc they were bored haha). Helps kids understand anger, triggers, warning signs/self-awareness, and coping. I'd recommend the Angry Octopus coloring book a companion to encourage more coping skills for anger.

Helped with tantrums!
My daughter LOVES this book and asks me to read it every night. We got it, because she is 3 1/3 and started throwing tantrums. She is already familiar with yoga breathing, so this kind of reinforced some of the techniques she is already familiar with and gave us something to refer back to when she starts getting worked up to remind her she can be the boss of her own emotions. It seems to have really helped. When she starts showing strong emotions, I can just point out that she is acting like an angry octopus. That clicks with her, and she tries really hard to get her emotions in check.

Maybe a bit too long
Bought for my 4 years old who gets frustrated easily. The book is long, half of it tells you how to tense and relax each part of your body, my son was not following the steps although he listened to the whole story twice.I found it a bit boring although it is a cute concept.Update: my son seems to like the book, he doesn't really follow the steps but he listens ...Update of the update: this book does seem to relax my son. He fe asleep twice while I was reading this book although he doesn't really follow the relation steps the repetition seems to work, he does complain that is a long book but I read it anyway :)

This book pairs perfectly with Angry Octopus: Color Me Happy, Color Me Calm by Lori Lite. Together, they pack a power punch
This is a very well-crafted relaxation story that takes you, step-by-step, through active progressive muscular relaxation meditation. The story pays special attention to bringing attention to feelings and sensations and it highlights important concepts such as self-reflection, body awareness and cooperation. This is a great book to read aloud to your own children as well as any children you have the opportunity to read to! It makes a great addition to a yoga class or a bedtime ritual and school teachers could use it to help their students relax. The sea creatures are adorable and I love the brightly colored palette and the blurred background lends to the feeling of being under the sea. This book pairs perfectly with Angry Octopus: Color Me Happy, Color Me Calm by Lori Lite. Together, they pack a power punch and are great books to help children to enjoy being calm and aware.

Beautiful, in-depth calming/breathing/relaxing techniques to help children & adults!
First, yes-this is a rather wordy book; however, it describes, in great detail, how to relax the entire body and works on breathing exercises. It’s a very in-depth look at anger and how a child can work through each part of the body to help calm themselves. If you feel like the book is too much for one sitting, simply read the beginning story and work through one of the techniques that is described. Then the next day read it again and build with the next one. As an adult, I felt myself trying them and I loved it! It’s a good exercise/life skill to practice with children that could help them throughout their lives! I highly recommend it!

Interesting and fun book exploring why we get angry and how we can calm ourselves down. I bought the Suki Gifts cuddly octopus to go with the book to use as a puppet while telling the story which worked really well. Has helped our 10-year-old son with ASD to explore his emotions and feelings around getting angry and having meltdowns. The book is very pretty and colourful.

Terrible quality control. Wrong book has been bound inside the book jacket,
Really really disappointed that we are have been sent a book that on the outside is the correct cover, but inside is some terrible story called Princess Bananas. How could this have happened? And now we have to send it back to get a refund. We wanted this to help her daughter with her anger issues instead it’s just enraged us! Not impressed.

Would be good if I could see it better
Downloaded on kindle and tried to read in app n iPad. But it is very small. If you try to enlarge you can get the picture but no text. My 4 1/2 year old lost interest quickly. Lovely idea though. Might get book for when he's a little bit older
