Amazing for one American, especially with the right bread
Several things (and youtube) videos led me to this purchase. My lack of counter space leading to my need to be able to put a toaster in a cabinet and take it out easily without having to worry about putting crumbs in that cabinet. My love of most things bread especially toasty bread. My laziness and incompetence in the mornings. I love mine. That said it is not for everyone.Pros:- When using Japanese milk bread when instructions are followed every time cooks bread consistently to the selected end state- Egg on toast variations come out perfect every time and involves no hot pan watching nor lids- The overnight french toast is an amazing souffle like experience with practically 0 effort- Helps with portion control (see reality)- Easy to clean- Small counter footprint compared to toaster ovens that use steam cooking- 1.5 week old bagels stored in the fridge come out as if they were fresh out the bagel shop- The steam that rises from it is beautiful- The build on this is beautiful from a mechanical/electrical engineering perspective. If well taken care of it will last for possibly a lifetimeCons:- Takes extra long using lower sugar content breads- Takes a while to cool down afterwards- I wish the height limit for the stuff you pile on top was higher. If you cut your bread a little thick, you have to squish it or cut it down if you want to put an egg on top- Outside of Japan, there is no warranty or repair. So you will have to be extra careful with it- Manual is only in Japanese. A really friendly reviewer, my google translate on my phone, and my barely conversational understanding of the language and a dictionary was required to feel as if I had a good enough handle on how to properly run and take care of it.Realities:- Toasts one piece at a time so if you have more than one American wanting toast at the same time this might not be for you. Two people could probably split the milk toast overnight french toast and have some fruit and technically by dietary calories be set for breakfast. If you have two or more people you could split it and enjoy it slowly while the next piece cooks. Which is honestly what I did because I eat two whole pieces at a time before full because lazy brunch consists of French toast only. But it might not be for you depending on your toasting needs.- You have to have a transformer to run it if your country has different electric than Japan- Milk bread can be hard to find outside of Asian grocery stores and some hipster stores. Making your own milk bread is a medium bread difficulty level slightly above basic white bread since you have to heat up some milk, flour, and water and then cool it off first. That said I am so lazy I haven't made anything but no Knead bread during the pandemic while all my friends are making sour dough. The recipe for milk bread definitely seems easier than making sour dough.Potential Improvements:- Instead of measuring with the back of the spatula and looking from the side, it would be nice if there were markings on the inside of the lid.- It would be nice to have a cool down indicator when the toaster gets at the best heat to clean it. Right after is too soon and it might burn you through your paper towel. But waiting for it to be all the way cool looses the benefit of cleaning a warmer surface (faster dry times and no need for leaving the damp cloth on top in the rare event of stuck on food)- Instructions in English would also be nice?

Just an amazing appliance.
I considered buying this toaster for over a year! I finally broke down and bought the toaster and power inverter (to step down the voltage). I researched this thing quite a bit and trusted it would be good. It is awesome!I really like this machine. It does an amazing job with toast. I would try and explain, but you should just search on YouTube and watch the videos. It is as advertised. Definitely a luxury spend, but a foodie will appreciate this appliance! No regrets with this purchase!

What an incredible toaster!
The media could not be loaded. This toaster is awesome!! It may seem crazy to pay this much for a one slice toaster but the difference is really something. This toaster manages to toast the outside of the bread while keeping the inside fluffy and tasting like fresh bread. This toaster works best with Japanese style milk bread but also greatly enhances normal bread you would buy at the super market as well. There's also a lot of recipes you can make in this toaster by putting toppings on your bread. If you scan the QR code on the back of the toaster it will take you to a website with a bunch of great recipes! If you are interested in making your own Japanese shokupan for this toaster "Dreams of Dashi" has a great and fairly easy recipe that goes great with this toaster. My only complaint is I wish the plate inside was removable to clean easier but it's not a huge issue. One major caveat you need to know before buying this toaster in the US (or anywhere outside of Japan really)is that you will need a 1000watt step down 100V transformer like in my picture. While Japanese plugs will work in american sockets I would not risk it with something like a toaster that produces heat. US outlets will deliver 20% more volts into the toaster and could cause risk of fire at worst or the machine heating up past what it's tested for at best. The transformer is also quite heavy and isn't the cheapest thing so make sure you have the cabinet/counter space and the cash if you really want this toaster, its a pretty crazy purchase but I love it and I've never had toast like it makes anywhere else!

Does Exactly What It Promises
They were not lying, this bad boy does burn one sheet of ultimate.I've been using this as my daily driver, so to speak, toasting a couple pieces of various types of bread every morning for breakfast. At first, I was a little put off by having to toast each one separately, but the second one always goes very quickly, since the griddle is already heated up. I was also concerned about finding bread that would play well with this thing, since it was clearly designed for thick, fancy French bread, but it actually works well with whatever you throw at it. Obviously a nice fluffy brioche is going to benefit more from the design and gentle toasting process, but it can also toast a mean poptart (and you can fit two in there at once!).Honestly, I bought it as kind of a novelty. I had a little windfall and was enamored with the idea of owning this ridiculous device, the world's most luxurious toaster. But it's a damn good product! It really does work! It's incredibly consistent, the toast is always perfect, it's well-designed and easy to clean. It's just a wonderful little piece of engineering.Maybe it's just because I went directly from a shoddy $20 slot toaster, but this thing is worth every penny. You really get what you pay for.
