Essential tool for explaining cancer to kids
This book was the perfect way to help me tell my kids that I have cancer. They are 4, 3, 2 & 9 months; obviously the younger two were oblivious, but my preschoolers were able to understand the story and relate it to my diagnosis when I told them after reading the story. The language is such that even small children can understand and it covers all the questions and emotions that kids may have. The book explains cancer, radiation and chemo in such a simple way, which was a huge blessing. I stressed for weeks about how to tell them and I am so eternally grateful that I found this book.If you’ve recently received the life-altering diagnosis and have kids of any age, do not hesitate to get this book; you’ll be so glad you did. Stay strong, be brave. All warriors have scars.

So sweet and helpful
I bought this book for a friend. She is going to have a mastectomy and has two little girls. I just wanted her to have something to help her explain to the girls what she has been going through and why. Having read through it, I would recommend this book as a helpful tool. I goes over how the mom has cancer, but it also focuses on what the children can do to be a help. It is not an easy time, but with helpful tools one can be eased through it and help others along the way.

Useful Book for Explaining a MOTHER's Cancer to Small Children
I purchased this book to help my not-quite 3-year-old daughter gain a better understanding of my cancer. As noted by another reviewer, this book is written from the perspective of a child whose MOTHER has cancer, so if you are looking for a more generic "loved one" relationship, this probably isn't for you. That said, I appreciated that the book did not specify the type of cancer (usually breast) the mother has been diagnosed with as so many books for children seem to do. When I read it with my daughter, there were ample opportunities to stop and discuss how she and I are feeling. She also liked following the titular butterfly across the pages. It seems to have clarified for her what is wrong with me, what has already happened, and what will happen next. As with any parent with cancer, my worries are only compounded by my fears about how this all is affecting my child. This book has helped provide a reference point for us as her father and I continue to talk with her about what is going on.

This book is the perfect way to explain cancer to young children.
This book is amazing. The author, with compassion and love, explains in child friendly language what is cancer, what treatment options are available for cancer, how families may be feeling when a loved one has cancer and gives suggestions for what children can do to help a loved one who has cancer. The Illustrations are beautiful as well as helpful. After reading this book to my granddaughter to help her understand her aunts cancer, I purchase two more copies to give to the oncologist. I am hopeful that he will give them out to young parents who may be going through this journey and need help explaining it two children.

Wonderful book however it was dirty, used
Such a touching book and it helped my 8 year old understand cancer in a non-scary way. The only complaint that I have is that the cover of the book was all dirty right out of the box by the book wasn’t sealed in plastic so I think it was used.

Great Book for Discussing Cancer with Small Children
I purchased this book to help explain cancer to my five-year-old son. It gave us a good starting point for talking about my husband's diagnosis and helped my son think of questions that he wanted to ask. He has asked that we read the book several times and enjoys it more than a second cancer book that I bought. It's hard to know the best way to approach talking about such a difficult topic with children, and this book was very helpful in starting that dialogue.

Beautiful book
I bought this book for a partner teacher who lost her sister in law to cancer. It was very touching to her and became an addition to our school library.

it's great to help younger children try to understand what we are going through as a family and would recommend it to anyone going through the same thing.
