classic material.i was most interested in the strange and untrue ideas held by this scholar regarding western, christian, and jewish ideology. a true window into what is accepted as truth in the middle east. the idea that the chastity belt was widely used thoughout europe for centuries in order to insure that christian women would remain unavailable while their husbands were away is clearly a misunderstanding by the author. this is her understanding, and therefore it must be true.the most important inclusion is the material on fgm.....so rarely admitted to, and still in use in egypt and throughout the islamic world, in spite of the fact that the tradition is not dictated by the koran......

I ordered this book because it caught my attention from a quote on another web site. The book is not an easy read but I have learned from it. The seller provided great service and the book is in good condition just as advertised. I would definitely buy from this seller again.

Women in the Arab world and many parts of the world throughout human history have been abused beyond belief! We cannot turn a blind eye toward how male dominance, religious control, ridiculous myths have been created and continue while the female gender is brutally treated. Educate a woman, change the world! Nawal El Saadawi's books should be read by the world!

It was hard to get past her lambasting of Western Civilization. I'm not interested in her opinion on socialism. Not relevant.

Nothing changes, horrific culture...

I've used and recommended this book to my students for years. Female Genital Mutilation wasn't much heard of in 70's & 80's and I had students in Bradford going into careers in midwifery and nursing. They were alarmed at this kind of topic as they had never seen it until they went for practical training on some of the wards. Bradford is extremely multi-national and multi-ethnic with many African Muslims. They had to learn to work with FGM women. Now, in 2014, its still not much publicised, but becoming more known slowly. Nawal explains this and many other sexist, abusive, violent experiences of women worldwide and in Muslim countries. Much is also from her own experience. I went to one of her lectures in the 70's/80's at Bradford university. A great woman who has 'stepped out' with courage. She writes well. All should be aware of what goes on - in the open, behind closed doors, and.... particularly against women in Muslim countries.

I received the book, which is for a module at university, within three days of making the order. It was in pristine condition as promised and I have been enthrawled by its contents since.A very clever story that shocks you out of preconceived biases to start which prepares you for the theological feminist discource that is to follow. El Saadawi writes with a revolutionary tone which makes the book quite hard to put down, she whips you into a frenzy of compassion at the most awqward of times (such as stuck in rush hour traffic on the underground with an armpit in your face).One downside is her use of spelling for Arabic words which have no phonetical correspondance with their original. For instance; Mohammed-Mahomett (and others). It took me several pages to realise she was even referring to the Prophet of Islam.All in All total value for money and a proffessional and great seller

For every page I turned, and I turned them all, the pages fell out. Binding was atrocious for such a great book. Shame.

Searching for a replacement copy of this book, found it at a great price from this vendor. Arrived far quicker than expected! Good, clean copy of the book, fast friendly service. Very pleased!
