Blues Power Live! - Play with the Band: Tenor Saxophone Paperback – November 1, 2003

I bought this book and CD for my GF who is transitioning from Clarinet to Tenor Sax. She took it to her private instructor who was very excited about the book and wanted to know where we got it.The combination of CD and book is excellent. We ripped the CD into her iTunes library and now she can practice with it easily, her chops are getting better and better since she can listen then play it, listen then play it. They have it broken into nice chunks that are easy to digest, sound good and are rewarding to play.Good music to all!

You know how often you buy blues book and the compositions are wanting? Well, Blues Power is the exception. Here you get very close variations on popular blues titles that will knock your sax off. The intermediate player can play most of the heads and many of the variations. It is a dream for the advancing sax player. Most important you hear the raunchy sounds of the sax and then, as an added bonus, you have a killer band. This is a must have even for modest players to learn from.

I had marginal expectations when I purchased this instructional tool. ALL MY EXPECTATIONS were EXCEEDED. WOW. This is SUPERB! I am a Jazz Tenor sax player (beginner to intermediate) so I was not that versed with the Blues. But Mr. Gernot Dechert's "BLUES POWER - Live" score book has clearly shown me that the Blues is definitely an avenue that I should open my scope to. AAAANNND ... it even has an fantastic CD that I can try to play along with (it is very challenging, at least for me it is).Gernot has set a very high bar on expectations! Love it!

Das Heft enthält sechs fetzige Stücke des Autors. Zu jedem Stück gibt es ein Voll- und ein Halbplayback auf der CD. Die ausnotierten Stücke und Soli sind teilweise nicht ganz leicht und auch ziemlich schnell für nicht so geübte Spieler. Da hilft nur üben ;-) Die erläuternden Texte sind parallel in englisch und deutsch geschrieben.Für jedes Stück ist auch das Lead Sheet sowie die passende Blues Scale notiert. Mit den Hinweisen und Tipps zum Nachspielen und Üben vom Autor kann man dann ziemlich schnell toll jammen ....

Not really what I was expecting. Half the page is in English and on the right is the same in German. Not sure why it goes through playing chords for blues changes on a tenor sax. If you want to play the tunes through, then you'll have to master playing the notes and turning pages for the rest of the tune. Not easy when both hands are on the sax! There are only 6 tunes used in the book. I definitely wouldn't recommend it for a beginner or someone below a good intermediate level.

Le gros plus: excellent outil de travail mais , en contre partie, il faut travailler pour en tirer le maximum. Super pour les débutants et les avancés pour les solistes ou ceux qui aiment faire des rifs. Bref, je me régale car ça pousse à bosser!!!! Bon boeuf à tous.

Not so good. Wierd arrangements that don't really work well. Tried going through it with my tutor, but he couldn't stomach it, either. Sorry I bought this one.
