Haunted Asylums Paperback – December 13, 2012

It’s a good read but it could of had more about the claims made of hauntings. It’s educational for sure

This book has amazing pictures of old mental institutions. The writing in the book is very poor - and the information is trite (as if taken from Wikipedia). As one who worked in a state mental hospital for 20+ years, I had heard all the information about the history of mental illness, strange and sometimes cruel treatments, and the theories behind them. But the book is worth the price for the pictures alone. It is printed on very heavy, glossy, paper. They spared no expense on the paper and printing, but could have hired a professional writer or done a little more research to put significant content and not just the superficial history that we all have heard before.

I recently purchased this book and had enjoyed looking through it. The photographs are stunning and the layout is very attractive. The only problem I had, that i often have with books from Schiffer Publishing, is the editing. I had a tough time reading it as there were misspellings, run-on sentences, flowery language and lots of ill-placed commas. I would probably rate it 3 1/2 stars if I could. Valiant effort on Mr. Vernor's part and a really fascinating subject. The copy editing though, makes it a tough read.

This book is beautiful and informative. I'm having a hard time reading it though because the photo's are so hauntingly fascinating, I keep stopping to look at them, even pages I have already seen. The photo's are superb and the writer gives the reader detailed stories on the history of these majestic buildings that once kept hidden away the mentally ill. Highly recommended.

This book is packed with so much information page by page it isn't funny. I felt compelled to keep a notebook by my side while reading it because it sites other references the reader may want to check out. The book is very thorough, spooky and straight to the point and well worth the read.

This was a very interesting and scary book

I had a hard time getting this book because it was always sold out.This book was more then i ever expected,beautiful color pictures take you too these places as if you were there.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!

Very interesting book

A wonderful book of spooky, atmospheric pictures and descriptions of the way we used to treat the mentally ill. One wonders what the future will make of our methods too...
