Easy to use, seems good quality
I bought this to check the temperature of fat in my new deep fryer - the thermometer was nearly as expensive! But money well spent as I now know the fryer is getting up to temperature and it was how I was using it which was the problem. The thermometer is easy to use but obviously without also owning a second thermometer that has been professionally verified it's difficult to comment on accuracy. In my case, I have no reason to doubt it - the fryer was set to 190deg and had been warmed up for 10 minutes with the lid on so it's reasonable for it to have heated slightly beyond the target.I suspect some people's complaint of inaccuracy is to do with the emissivity being incorrectly set. In a nutshell, there is a setting automatically set at 0.95 on a scale of 0.0 to 1.0 which tells you how much heat a surface will radiate. Matt black stuff is around 1.0; it doesn't radiate heat at all. Shiny stuff might be 0.15, it radiates most of the heat it contains. There is a reference chart of common surfaces you might want to temp check in the instructions, but you can google the precise material easily too. In this case, animal/vegetable oil has an emissivity of 0.95 so the default setting is fine. We'll see how long the batteries last but first impressions are very good.

A good all rounder lazer thermometer 4stars
I just got this infrared thermometer to replace an old broken one. I use it mostly for the pizza oven. It’s great for getting the right temp to bake bread and to ensure the oven is really hot for pizza. Once the fires died down I cook with a tagine and the laser thermometer is great to make sure it’s cooking thru. All sorts of uses round the homeThe MESTEK model is easy to use straight out of the box and has a really good temp range it’s important to me as the wood oven can exceed 600c and some of the cheaper models only go up to 300c. It looks a bit Star Trek but that’s okFinally it comes in a useful box to keep it safeAll in all a solid 4star all round

Tested and it seems to be pretty good !

Does what it says
This infra red thermometer is just what I wanted. It measured the temperature of various points on my classic car engine so that I can monitor the cooling system. The thermometer has a range of facilities that should cover most peoples needs. The operating instructions were a little unclear, the translation into English is not the best. A clearer explanation of the various reasons for the functions would have helped but this can all be worked out or looked up on Google if you are unsure of anything. I was a little concerned about some of the negative reviews but I believe that the people who are finding it inaccurate are probably not setting it up properly for what they are measuring the temperature of. I have only tried it out briefly but it appears to be a good piece of kit and will hopefully serve me well in the future.

Easy to use.
Nice unit. Good clear display. Instructions easy to comprehend. Not tested against known heat sources, therefore, unable to give marks for accuracy. I don't really need it that accurate as I got it for measuring temperature in excess of 300 degree Celsius, pizza ovens. I'm looking for the heat spread and if any elements are not working.I would have liked a pouch to keep it in when not in use. I think I would have given an extra star for this.Arrived promptly, overall pleased.

Good enough - display could be brighter
Useful piece of equipment. Initially purchased to read car temperatures for air conditioning in the car and pipework in the engine bay. Seems to read 1 or 2 degrees higher than my digital thermometer probe so not sure how accurate it is but good enough for the purpose. Found the display difficult to read outdoors - even with new batteries inserted.

Decent
The temp gun is easy to use and easy to read and it seems fairly accurate (within the tolerance advertised) in situations where I've checked it with another thermometer. Like all infra-red guns, they don't work accurately on every surface because it depends on how much infra-red the surface emits, but there is an adjustment for that in the gun. (Although I haven't yet used that adjustment).
