Bilingual Cuban folk tales reflect mix of Spanish, African and Caribbean heritage
I bought this book after checking it out several times from the library. These bilingual Cuban folk tales are whimsical, wise and fascinating. The stories are from the "once upon a time" past that reflects a mixture Spanish, African and Caribbean heritage. The intended audience may have been school children but adults will enjoy it. I am an adult trying to learn Spanish and this book is an interesting break from workbooks. One favorite story is "Yams don't talk" which features a tricky turtle and the efforts a young couple to get the king (who else?) to solve the problem of their talking yams. Stories provide insights into human character but are not preachy. This purchase was the first time I bought a used book from Amazon. The book arrived in good condition as promised.

A gift
I have looked at the book and it is great. There is a Spanish and English version of each story with illustrations. I hope to read it to my grandchildren and introduce them to the Spanish language at The same time.

My love affair with Cuba
Was the reason I bought this book. Illustrations are beautiful and the bilingual story telling was and still is of great interest to me...Insight into the culture but also similarities shone through.
