Enter a world of warriors, gods, magic and mystical creatures...
Among fantasy artists, Boris Vallejo is one of the best know, up there with Frank Frazetta, the Hildebrandt Brothers and others. His art has appeared on book and magazine covers, movie posters, T-shirts, collectables, and of course a yearly calendar. In 1989 he met body builder and fantasy artist Julie Bell in her own right, the two would later marry and since 2001 have worked on the calendar together. The world of Vallejo and Bell is one of buff male and female warriors, gods and goddesses, mystical beings and all manner of creatures, some real, some pure fantasy. Despite this, the paintings look real in terms of depiction, use of color and light. Besides a panting for each month, there's a bonus 'centerfold' one suitable for hanging. While the images contain no graphic nudity, the figures are often scantily clad, so if that offends you, maybe not your thing, but otherwise certainly a gorgeous fantasy calendar for your wall.

Fell flat.
I love the artwork. Honestly Julie and Boris are in my top 5 all time favorite artists, but I stopped buying because of lack of diversity. Year after year with just one or two people that look like me. It wasn't worth buying. Representation Matters.

My favorite calendar!
I love the beautiful images in this calendar! I first found it when looking for calendars to put up at work. Maybe not appropriate to have it around in a university setting (the ladies look a little too nice), but I DEFINITELY needed this for home. Lovely!!!

Delightful fantasy calendar for 2020
Boris Vallejo has been publishing beautiful fantasy art calendars for several decades: I've bought one each year for a quarter of a century (starting in 1995) and I believe he published several as far back as the eighties. Often there is a unifying theme or narrative to the collections in a calendar, sometimes with accompanying text from a master of written fantasy such as Philip Jose Farmer (1995) or C.J. Henderson (2002).For the past decade and a half these calendars have been joint productions between Boris and his present wife, Julie Bell. Indeed, they are often family productions: Julie's son Anthony Palombo was one of the authors of the story text linking the paintings in a previous calendar, and the last few calendars including this 2020 one have had a photgraph on the back cover of artists Boris and Julie taken by Boris's daughter Maya Vallejo who is a professional photographer. This 2020 calendar contains thirteen exceptionally lovely images (one for each month and a double spread between June and July) each of which consists of a beautiful female figure (woman, fairy, goddess or mermaid) and one or more real or fantasy animals, with the following titles:January: "Crashing Waves" (a woman reclining on the back of a water dragon)February: "Guardians at Rest" (a woman asleep on the back of one of a pair of elephants)March: "Clutching a memory" (A woman sprouting feathered wings, and a bird)April: "Fierce Protector" (A woman accompanied by the head of a fantasy lion)May (and cover): "Fearless Rider" (A female warrior rides on a triple-headed dragon)June: "Whispering Wings" (A bird of prey and a fairy)Centre spread: "Royal Respite" (Another painting of a woman and a lion)July: "Enchanted Flight" (A woman and a Pegasus or flying horse)August: "Trusted Companions" (A smiling woman giving food to dragons)September: "Harnessed Power" (A flying woman emits lightning from her fingers which seems to coalesce into birds)October: "Aquatic angel" (A winged mermaid)November: "Fall from Grace (a woman and a zebra)December: "Scribe of Secrets." (A Far Eastern woman in a beautiful and elaborate gown writes in a magic book, accompanied by her faithful dog, while behind her, constellations appear to come to life.)Some years this calendar has been in roughly equal proportions a tribute to the male and female human form, but there are no men in this one, all the humanoid figures are women."Trusted Companions" is the only picture this year which displays the wry humour which Boris often puts into his pictures, but the standard of skill displayed in the artwork, both in the six paintings by Boris Vallejo and the seven by Julie Bell, is if anything even higher than before. I think "Scribe of Secrets" is the most beautiful Julie Bell painting I have ever seen and "Crashing Waves" is one of the best by Boris. If you liked any of the previous Boris and Julie calendars, or if you like fantasy art in general, there is a very good chance that you will like this one.
