A "green" yellow paper.
I had been given a demonstration junior pad of cane paper from my Universal rep that I fell in love with. I decided to try a cane paper for my legal pads and decided on this one to try first. On writing tests, pencil worked very well, leaving a tidy line while maintaining a nice bite on the pencil tip. Little to no excess dust on a #2 pencil. Rollerball ink was immediately absorbed and faintly streaked after immediately wiping a fresh line of script with my finger. Ink from my fountain pen soaked in as quickly and only produced a bit of bleed through to the back of the paper, not to the next sheet. Similar results from Sharpie ink and a felt tip pen. Sharpie bled the most, but it still left a very tight line on the fine point. Felt tip and fountain pen would allow for use of the other side, but in that case, I would prefer to jump to a heavier paper since 16oz is still pretty light. The yellow paper tore from the pad nicely and cleanly, and the ruled lines and the downlines are done in black. I would have preferred light blue ruled lines and red downlines, but it gets the job done. I do like this paper since it feels very much like regular paper, but it does not feel as good as the paper I tried from Universal. I will be happy to use this paper and try to find another cane paper that gets closer to the buttery feel of the Universal.

This is really quite good paper. I bought this 12 pack and really like the way the paper works with fountain pen; it has a smooth surface and takes ink well without bleeding. Here's a link to a long review I wrote for Fountain Pen Network : http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/289981-really-jazzed-about-cane-fields-sugar-cane-legal-pads/I really like this paper. I have one complaint though which is why 4 stars. When I bought it the price was $20.47, that's $1.70 per pad; a good price. About 3 weeks after my purchase the price went up to its current price; a substantial increase. I have a feeling this was done for no other reason than to grab a fatter profit. Most legal pads are made from really cheap crummy paper. New, better products like this sugarcane paper will never catch on if they're priced as "premium" products. It's a penny-wise dollar-foolish marketing strategy to price this as a premium product rather than an everyday product. Priced reasonably it will sell much more volume over time and would supplant the poorer standard legal pad paper of today, thus grabbing long-term market share. There free marketing advice; please lower the price of this very good paper.
