Spring Gobbler Hunting Outside the Box: The Memoirs of a Virginia Master Turkey Hunter

In all honesty, I only bought this book to see exactly how Mr. Abdullah obtained his certification as a Master Turkey Hunter. And, just as I thought before starting the book, nowhere does Mr.Abdullah explain just how he came to possess this title. Apparently, Mr. Abdullah believes it is acceptable to bestow this title on himself.It appears to me that Mr. Abdullah has only ever hunted turkeys in Virginia, and then only on private land, with few, if any, other hunters in the same area. If that's the type of turkey hunting you do, by all means, buy this book. The information and tactics he presents in his book will probably prove helpful to you.In contrast, however, I hunt turkeys here in PA, and only on public land - primarily over-crowded State Game Lands. If that's the type of hunting you do, you may want to skip this book. Mr. Abdullah's use of decoys and gobbler calls, combined with the tactic of hunting while lying on your stomach, will prove very dangerous to the average hunter in this environment. At a minimum, it will get your decoys destroyed when another hunter shoots them, and at worst, it will get you killed when another hunter believes you, while hunting on your stomach, are a real turkey.A true Master Turkey Hunter would know this, and have issued appropriate warnings.A much better book for public-land turkey hunting is Hunting Pressured Turkeys by Brian Lovett.

The author provides useful tips and insight on all aspects of turkey hunting. Anyone who is just starting out or even those that have been hunting for years could benefit from this book.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is serious about improving their techniques and getting the most out of their turkey hunting experience. The book offered more than a few innovative ideas that improved my overall gobbler harvest.

Great book. Easy to follow along. Makes you feel like you are right there with the author as he hunts and gives out strategies. Highly recommend.
