Our family farming tradition spans five generations. The Mercers have actively managed the same property in Washington state since 1886, first raising row crops and livestock, and today overseeing 2,000 acres of vineyards in the renowned Horse Heaven Hills AVA. The family's involvement in the wine industry began in 1972, when Don and Linda Mercer were the first to plant wine grapes in the Horse Heaven Hills. In 2005, Rob and Brenda Mercer founded Mercer Wine Estates, which now crafts three tiers of estate wines, plus a new micro-production label dedicated solely to charity: Mercer Canyons, Mercer Estates, Mercer Estates Reserve and Eagle & Plow. One of the great joys of farming is sharing the wines that exemplify the many interesting qualities of this land. "Mercer's red wines are sourced from our estates vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA. These sites provide ripe fruit with structured, dusty tannins and balanced acidity. Grapes for our white wines are sourced from vineyards in the cooler Yakima Valley AVA for their bright fruit flavors and natural acidity.
