What Every Therapist Needs to Know About Anxiety Disorders: Key Concepts, Insights, and Interventions

I read this as a patient and loved it
I know this book is geared towards therapists but I honesty think it’s one of the best books on anxiety that I’ve read. I don’t have access to good CBT therapists where I live but i now feel like I have a resource that guides me towards how to recover from anxiety and a book that explains what is going on. This book also makes me realize how misunderstood I have been by therapists who just didn’t know better. If you are a therapist currently treating anxiety, I highly recommend reading this book. It is 100% clear that the authors understand anxiety from personal and professional experience and you will be such a great help to your patients if you understand and follow their advice on treatment. Also, the way they advise to relate to patients without judgement and without inaccurate diagnosis’s. It could be the difference of one of your patients suffering for a short while in your care through recovery vs them continuing suffering for many.. maybe 20 or more years. Thank you for this well written, compassionate, knowledgeable book. I’ve read many Claire Weekes books and this is a wonderful companion to those books. So thorough and helpful.

If you have anxiety or treat anxiety you need to read this book.
I have been treating anxiety disorders for close to 30 years and have rarely found a book so full of useful tips, insights and techniques for understanding and treating anxiety disorders. I give this book my highest recommendation. As opposed to working to eliminate anxiety the authors propose a very different approach...acceptance of your anxiety and from my experience this is exactly what works. The goal is not to eliminate anxiety but rather to take the stance that it doesn't matter if you're anxious or not. Anxiety sends us either totally false alarms or alarms that are much louder than they need to be. Reid Wilson has written about the "signal" vs "noise" distinction. Once we can see anxiety as "noise" then it doesn't matter if we feel anxious - just because you feel anxious does not mean that you're in any real danger. This book makes all of these points, and many more as well. This is a must read if you treat anxiety disorders.

This is it!
I have been a Board Certified psychiatrist for almost 20 years, and have found Seif and Winston's Book to be the best that I have ever read on anxiety disorders. A thought that frequently went through my head as I was reading this was" why didn't someone teach me this years ago?" If you do choose to pick up up this easy– to –read book, you will be way ahead of the game.I would like to thank the the authors for writing such a concise, clinically relevant, well researched book that reveals their "insiders secrets". It fulfills the promise of its title quite handily.

Absolutely Essential Reading
This text should be standard for all graduate programs in the helping profession. The authors are legitimate practitioners who have dedicated their lives and legacies to understanding and treating anxiety disorders and OCD and it shows in this text. Complex and nuanced ideas are distilled to something understandable and more important, applicable.

An exceptional book. As a therapist in private practice ...
An exceptional book. As a therapist in private practice I have followed Dr Martin Seif's treatment recommendations for many years now, and owe him a debt of gratitude I could never repay. Anybody wanting to learn about anxiety and how to manage it can benefit from this book, and also from the information on Dr. Seif's website - John ODonoghue, LMFT
