Book
I have ordered several copies over the years because I knew Robert Davis since my childhood days. Mr Davis was my next door neighbor.

Insight into the loved one with Alzheimer's disease
This book was written by a man who had Alzheimer's. He wrote his feelings until he was no longer able to. Then his wife took up the book and finished it for him. I read this book some years ago when my sister's husband had Alzheimers. He was such a precious gentle Christain man. He was never violent or hurtfull to anyone but we just didn't understand some of the things he was doing. Such as calling the police at 2 A.M. and reporting there was a stranger in his house. This book gives such insight to what the patient goes through in this devistating process into this disease. What they feel in the early stages and as they progress. I never would have thought of the fear and loneliness they may feel as they know they are losing mental function. I think it helped our family to understand and be more accepting of some things that our loved one did during this time. When I found these books at Amazon at such a reasonable price, I purchased these two books to give to friends who's loved ones have Alzheimer's and are going through the same thing that we went through. I hope other people will read this book and it be of as much help to them as it was to us.Mary

Helpful, personal non clinical book
A wonderfully written book by a husband (who has Alzheimerโs and his wife. For anyone facing this diagnosis or of a family member, this book is upbeat and positive. It is not clinical yet helpful as it chronicles the progression of the disease in this man. I have purchased this book for many friends who are working through the grief of Alzheimerโs in their loved ones.

One of the best books ever on Alzheimer's
This is perhaps the first book written by an Alzheimer's victim while he still could communicate by computer (speaking or handwriting had already left his abilities). Because he was such a student and avid reader all his life, he tells what Alzheimer's is like from the 'inside.' Until he wrote, we largely relied on caregivers' experiences in caring for a loved one to describe the journey from an outsider's perspective.I gave this book to a person who had had multiple little strokes, and after reading it, she agreed about the 'black hole' described by the author. So, in dementia memory loss, there are some similarities between the types, though from different causes.I can't recommend this book too highly. I recently purchased this copy to give to a woman who's in the frustrations of early Alzheimer's in her husband. I began and led an Alzheimer's support group for 14 years when Alzheimer's was just emerging into the foreground back in the 80's, and when this book came out, it was a real God-send and tool for families. When you can get into someone else's skin, it gives a whole new meaning to why they do and behave, and makes caregiving expectations more reasonable. Not necessarily easier, but more reasonable.

A Travel Guide for Alzheimers
This book was written by a pastor who was diagnosed with the dreadful disease. He believed that God allowed him to have Alzheimers so that he could write-to /tell others about its effects upon him, and of God's sustaining grace. As one reads through the volume the progress of the illness becomes apparent in his writings. Eventually his wife had to assist him, and then finally finish the book. As a former chaplain in a nursing home I found the Daviss's account spot on with what I saw and experienced with my precious constituants, and helpful for families and friends of victimas. I gave away numerous volumes to halp folks grasp the enormity of the problem and inform them how to love and encourage patients, family and friends. Well worth absorbing and sharing. Several years ago my own precious wife was diagnosed with Azhaimers, and again we personally found the experience of the authors spot on. God's grace is real and there for those who reach out for it.

Personal to Me!
Robert Davis was my pastor and friend. I was close to him, and his wife Betty, during the period covered by the book. I attended all of his final series of sermons as described in his book and was an elder in his church. He prayed over me in a time of crisis. Now my wife has had Alzheimer's disease for 5 years and so far I am able to care for her at our home.Oddly I had never read his book, although I was aware of it. My present pastor's wife was amazed to hear that Bob was my pastor and mentioned the book to me. I ordered it from Amazon and read it in two days. It was doubly meaningful to me. Betty did a great job finishing the book; however, more is known about the disease now than when she wrote about it.

Paving the Way for Other Alzheimer's Caregivers
It is rare that someone would dare to face their own devastating terminal illness, in this case, Alzheimer's Disease, with such clarity and insightfulness. As a caregiver to my husband, a United Methodist pastor, who is in the mid-statges of this disease, this book was immeasurably enlightning and helpful in understanding some of what is happening in his mind. It has also helped me to better know how to minister to him and to now how to deal with this ongoing degeneration of what was a bright mind. Robert Davis' faith and ultimate trust, especially his sharing of how he made peace with the disease, has proved to be a great help to me, as I know it will be to others. I might note that my husband also read the book and found it helpful. Many thanks to Rev. Davis!Edna H. LoveUnited Methodist Pastor (retired)

Excellent book
This book was written by a husband and wife; the husband suffered from declining Alzheimer's Disease. I appreciated the first-person perspective, which gives the reader an idea of what having Alzheimer's Disease is like.

Valuable
I'm trying to understand what a friend is experiencing at the start of her journey into dementia. This book is very valuable because it gives one a glimpse into the horrors of this disease through the eyes of someone actually experiencing it.

'My Journey into Alzheimers Disease' by Robert Davis
A wonderful book. My father died of both Parkinsons disease and Alzheimers and I have been having terrible memory problems recently which seem to be getting much worse as time goes by. I needed a book which would allow me to understand more just what Alzheimers is all about. Both this book and 'Losing My Mind' by Robert DeBaggio are two books which I would definitely recommend if you want to learn more about this awful disease.
