Fascinating reading
[...]. I started reading his columns a few years ago, and have read him daily ever since. Occasionally I find a letter and associated response to be less than interesting, but overall I find Cary's responses to be creative yet practical, empathetic without being syrupy sweet, and well thought through, sometimes wrapped up in a stroke of genius. People write in to Cary with problems ranging from banal to life or death, and he manages to respond uniquely and helpfully to each person whose letter is published. For a middle-aged white man, he has a point of view which is not just global, but universal. He has a way of putting things in perspective that can really shake you out of your tree, which is an amazing talent.I read this book in two days and am hungry for more. Cary, please, may I have another?

but we enjoy them anyway
Bought this to take the place of Dear Amy on days when the paper doesn't come. The letters are longer and more dated, but we enjoy them anyway.

Insightful
Tennis has an insightful way which I find fascinating reading even though I may not always agree with his take on a given situation. He is compassionate but not easily duped by a fabricating contributor.Always an interesting read.Try it!

He is a genius and funny, too!
Cary Tennis is laugh out loud funny in some of his answers and will bring you to surprise tears in others and teach you new perspectives in others. He is never predictable or boring. I am so glad I found this ( seems to be 12 step logic but expressed as only this special person could write it) book!

great reading
Cary is the wise old man on the hill with a long flowing beard. The guy's got great responses to people's questions. Often quite practical, many times funny, and always long on compassion. And he's a beautiful writer, to boot. You won't be disappointed. My sister is a therapist, and when she came for a visit she couldn't put it down.

Thoughtful, funny, interesting, moving prose. Bam!
I really like this book. I found Cary Tennis through a Roger Ebert journal blog. It referenced a Tennis column titled, "Will our words ever be heard again?" Look that particular column up if you ever find yourself in an existential funk. Buy this book for your girlfriend or boyfriend. I did. She liked it.

Hard Read
I am a college grad and live in the South. I found this hard to read. I am not familiar with Salon.com, but I love advice columns. I haven't finished this book its just a bit hard to read. Also very liberal.
