Classic and stylish clothes for both boys and girls. Easy to make and they sew up fast if you follow Ms. Kim's instructions. I like the fact upcycling is encouraged.The patterns are printed on heavy white paper with sizes 12 mos to 5 years. Easy to trace.I've had no problems finishing the seams; I use the overcast stitch and foot on my machine. Ms. Kim gives instructions to zig zag or overcast the edges of your fabric pieces before sewing the garment. I do use some more traditional sewing techniques for the bias binding on sleeves and necklines. For lightweight fabric blouses, I use French seams.Always get your child's measurements. Alter the patterns to fit. You can add some heirloom sewing touches. Like tucks, lace insertions, and different trims to make unique garments.I also recommend getting a how-to book such as Vogue Sewing. It will explain how to sew set in sleeves, French seams, and bias bindings.

The adorable designs and interchangeable pattern pieces earn this book 3 stars. The garments are geared toward beginners. However, as an intermediate sewer, I cannot give it 4 or 5 stars because the techniques used create sloppy garments. E.G: 3/8" seam allowances are too narrow for finishing with a zig-zag or serger. Cotton fabric ravels unless edges are finished. Page 32 describes folding back edge 1 and 1/2", but that is too small for top on p 43. Each pattern has you bouncing around to other pages for partial instructions, but the instructions don't always suit what the sewer is working on. Page 12 explains which side buttonholes should be sewn depending on gender. Yet photos are not consistent. Neck and bias bands are too wide and double top-stitching should be recommended,; otherwise, the bias edge curls. Bias band underarm creates a lot of bulk. It should not be finished until after the side seam is sewn. If these patterns are followed step-by-step, the garment will be created. But don't count on a nicely, finished piece.

First off, cute patterns. There are plenty of basic clothing options for both boys and girls that aren't overly complicated or in some crazy colors. Simple, clean, and nice. Secondly: Finally something for boys. There are so many books out there for little girl dresses, little girl jackets, little girl tops, little girl toys. I have young boys. The market for sewing is already geared to the girls, but what about the moms who only have boys. Are we supposed to remain happy with limited options from circa 1980? I wish that she came out with another book for the older boys too because every pattern stops at essentially 5t. I made the Jacket for my son and added a few other elements very easily. He loves it.

Speak as you find...as a beginner who attends weekly sewing classes, I purchased this book based on the pictures and what appeared to be clear instructions. To my inexperienced eye the garments look simple and different styles are subtitled 'beginner' or 'intermediate' which made me feel it would be suitable for me. In practice, the instructions are confusing and anything but easy to follow! Even my tutor has found the instructions misleading. The patterns are very difficult to interpret, being multi layered and 'shared' between different styles so when making a garment you have to keep referring to different pages in the book. Not very user friendly.

I wanted to make classical clothes and the little girls dresses were exactly what I wanted. I made the Charlotte dress. it looks great.
