Perfect for apartments, interior spaces, kids and pets. This kit includes color-coded hardwood dowels precision cut to several lengths and flexible nodes made from UV-resistant rubber, packaged in a beautifully screen-printed canvas bag with a handy shoulder strap. Inside the bag, you'll find laminated assembly diagrams and a separate bag for the nodes. DOME KIT has been purposely designed to be big enough for people to get inside it and strong enough to be covered with blankets or decorated with lights. Although it's difficult to explain, there's something magical about the experience of being inside a dome you built with friends. Beyond teaching science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills in a fun and social way, DOME KIT has incredible potential for experiential education across multiple disciplines. We've had great success with a time-trial based dome raising competition as a way to measure teamwork, leadership, and collaboration skills in groups.

Geodesic Domes with Kids: It can be done!
I bought this dome as a Christmas present for my twin 8 year old sisters to build with my dad. It was a very white Christmas so had to do our first build in the living room instead of the front yard. I was a little bit nervous because I wasn't sure it would fit, but we tried our best to fit the coffee table in the corner of the room and we went to work.I explained to the girls that we were building a geodesic dome and what that was. They looked confused, but I told them that they could play inside of it when we got it done. They liked that idea and were excited to help me. It took them a couple tries to get the hang of sticking the the dowels in the holes of the rubber connectors, but were eventually able to do it without much help. It took us less than an hour to put up. They stayed engaged the whole time which was great. It gets hard at the end when you are putting the final piecs together. If you are working with kids, I suggest having them stand on the inside to support the dome as you finish it up.We kept it up for whole day and took some flashlights and blankets inside to tell ghost stories (kind of weird for Christmas right?). I stayed outside while they lied down on the inside. It wasn't quite big enough for all of us.After they went to bed, it only took me a couple minutes to take down and re-pack. All in all, it was a pretty good time. They wanted to build it again. I wanted to build it again. Maybe next time we can go to the park!
