Did not work for me
I'm on an Intel iMac. The port did not work for me, sadly. I connected two firewires and two USB's. One of the firewire connections kept breaking and rebooting my external hard drive. The USB connections did not work at all. When you pay this much for a Firewire port, it should work as expected. On the bright side, the return process was easy. I'm still looking for an alternative solution.

Works well, looks nice
Rather expensive, but it does exactly what it's supposed to do. I have it screwed onto a shelf beside my desk, so it's in perfect position to plug in expansion USB and/or Firewire peripherals without getting in the way of my work.

Use only for peripherals.
The device worked... Okay... The USB ports never powered external hard drives... The connection on the Firewire side always kept dropping, requiring cycling. The only thing that it really worked consistently for was for plugging in the keyboard, mouse, tablet and shuttle... But now it's not even doing that anymore.Customer support on the device was horrendous, trying to get answers and no response, just having to deal with it.

Didn't work!
Connected the hub to my Intel iMac. When I connected an external FireWire backup HD through the hub, the HD mounted on my desktop but I was unable to read from it or write to it. I first thought that the HD maybe went bad on me. But when I tried to use Apple's Disk Utility app to check the drive, the app froze on me and I had to force quit it. I then shut down, removed the hub and restarted my iMac and everything was back to normal: the HD mounted fine and I was able to use it as I normally did. Pretty clear that the hub was the problem. Luckily, return was simple. Really disappointed as my iMac only has one FireWire 800 port and it's a pain to swap out the different FireWire devices I have. I was hoping the hub would be the solution. But, sadly, no.

Very robust and a tiny bit large.
Works well, but is way larger and more robust than I imagined it would be. That's probably not a bad thing, but if you have limited desk space and whatnot...well, it might be.Anyway, I use it to power a Leaf digital back since my iMac doesn't put out enough dubs via the firewire port.

I won't connect Firewire devices with the USB port alone.
We thought we could connect our Firewire devices to our Latest iMac by USB 3.0 output alone. They supply 2 different cables USB 3.0 and a Firewire output cables to connect your devices. So Mac users if you want not to use your limited Thunderbolt ports for Firewire and thought to connect your Firewire devices buy USB 3.0 connection of this device. You will spend your money for nothing. Just Beware before buying it.

Expensive with nonexistent technical support.
I bought a Professional NitroAV 4-Port USB 3.0 & FireWire 800/1394b Hub/Repeater that I discovered was the source of what I thought was a major server problem. My server would crash resulting in a corrupt system and all my raid drives would go into failure warning mode requiring me to reinstall the operating system from a backup – when I replaced the NitroAV 4-Port USB 3.0 & FireWire hub the problem vanished.I tried to contact NitroAV technical support online, email and by phone without any luck, apparently NitroAV technical support is nonexistent. So if you want a NitroAV USB 3.0 & FireWire hub that has no technical support that will create havoc with you computer or server, this is the product for you. I highly recommend trying anything but the NitroAV 4-Port USB 3.0 & FireWire 800/1394b Hub/Repeater.

Works good great no drivers to install
Works good great no drivers to install. I have not used the USB3 because my laptop won't support it. Be aware this has a very large brick to power it so being mobile is more changeling but its the only good option for the old FW-800 ports.
