Just didn't work for me
It pains me to write this review...but I gotta do it. I gotta be honest. This story lacked the beauty, depth, drama, and believably of previous ODS books. Honestly, I think Young should have left the series at Moonlight on on Nightinggale Way...that story was utterly beautiful. But she gave us Craig and Rain and they were just okay. Craig was sexy and flirty bartender, but we rarely got to see that side. Rain was a 40s pinup-looking type and that fact was hammered in over and over again. The steamy scenes were HOT HOT HOT though...as per the usual Young style. She just excels at smexy scenes. And there were times that I felt my emotions riding the waves of the characters...so there were definite Young emotions in there. But aside from those two facts, it just wasn't that interesting of a read.I wish the drama that surrounded Rain's sister, Darcy, would have been Rain's story. That was really tragic and original and unlike anything I'd ever read before. Instead she was just a protective big sister with a rough upbringing that we didn't get much info on.The whole "romantic" vs "realist" was okay...but kind of over done. The last drama in the book annoyed me. I think Craig should have (and would have) reacted differently. His character proved that he was passionate, but he just sort of let it all happen. (sorry...don't want to include spoilers)I'm not sure I'm thrilled with the ending all together really.I'll still read more of Young's books. I'm a fan for life, but this story was lacking. Can't wait to see what she comes out with next.

Okay
Oh, how I love Samanta Young. I would, and have, read everything by her. Of course, we all know that On Dublin Street was such a classic love story (meaning once you've read it, you'll probably never forget it). I think we all pretty much feel in love with Samantha Young herself after that book. There have been quite a few additions to this series over the years, some just as good as On Dublin Street, and some just okay.Personally, I'd have to say that this was probably my least favorite in the series. I had a hard time connecting with our h/H. They were just...okay. They didn't sweep me off my feet like so many of her characters before. Their love interest/dilemma just felt...okay. The mission our h has set herself on for the course of this story seemed a bit contrived. Don't get me wrong, I understand the need and want to protect a sibling from harm and hurt, but some of the h's decisions just seemed dumb as f***. She was such a smart, sassy, and independent young lady that the lengths she was determined to go to for her sister and to get revenge just didn't jive together.Overall, I would say that it is worth the read, but it could have been better. Honestly, maybe another 70-100 pages of character and plot development could have taken this story from okay to incredible. I'm used to crying in most of Samantha Young's stories, but I never even got close with this one--not that I'm a glutton for misery or anything :)

she has plans and knows first hand that getting involved with a player is like playing with fire
One King’s Way is book #6.5 in the On Dublin Street Series. It features a dual-POV shared between bartender Craig Lanaghan and Rain Alexander, a girl on a mission, who can’t seem to shake Craig since she stepped into his bar. While Craig is relentless in pursuing her, she has plans and knows first hand that getting involved with a player is like playing with fire: someone’s bound to get burned. One thing I disliked was the redundancy in the plot. To people who have never read a Samatha Young book before, the plot might sound okay. But I’ve read every single book in the series and more from this author (in other words: a lot) and it’s always the same. Manwhore falls head over heels in love with the perfect sweet girl. You know, the one that does not sleep around, and has been burned before etc.But so many more things in this book were annoying and over the top. There was the fact that Rain was overly jealous. And really, Craig (who, let’s not forget, is totally in love with Rain) has no idea what a normal relationship includes, and thinks flirting for the job’s sake is allowed. But then again, who is Rain to deny him better tips? Both main characters were so messed up in so many ways. And excuse me, what is it with Rain and her messed up plot for her sister’s vengeance? She’s an all-bad-retro-girl on a mission but apparently has nothing in her brain because she hadn’t really thought her plan through. Well, the one thing that I found interesting about her was the fact that the she character was kind of intriguing given her pin-up Dita Von Teese allure (at least that’s how I pictured her). But… that’s about it.And yeah, that’s about it. The storyline was ridiculous. In my opinion. One King’s Way just wasn’t the kind of believable read that the first On Dublin Street used to be. It feels like Samantha Young has to bring even more extravagant characters and storylines into the series with each book, and believe me – I don’t mind! But the plots are just not thought out and believable anymore.

Is this a re-release of an old book?
I don't often write reviews but I do check reviews from other readers, especially when I am thinking about purchasing books by authors I have not previously read. Those reviews are important to me as books are becoming so very expensive and I read an average of 15-20 books per month.I own and have read every other volume of the "On Dublin Street Series" by Samantha Young. These books have been an auto buy since the series inception. I love the characters, the development of the stories, the back stories and the ongoing glimpses into the lives of these people we have grown to know and love through this series. For that reason "One King's Way" was an auto pre-order. Unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. From the very beginning, I kept thinking this book must have been written much earlier than when it was published. It lacked continuity with the earlier stories but that was an annoying but minor issue compared to the story and characters themselves. This story lacked the depth and richness, the connection you should feel to Craig and Rain. They were shallow, self centered, and although there might have been a good back story there, it was not developed to the extent that you understood the reasons for their behaviors or really even liked them. It seemed that this very short story was written early in the series and just released as an afterthought. This books is not indicative of the quality of the other stores "On Dublin Street" . I would hope that if readers who are not familiar with the series or Samantha Young do not start with this story. If I had read this story first I would never have considered the other volumes and missed some great stories. This will make me think twice about an auto buy for future Samantha Young books though. I will probably wait until they have been released and then look at reviews by other readers to see what is being said.

Short, too short! But aren't they all? And, so sweet. Such a lovely love. I even cried. Another great read, thanks Samantha!

One kings way
