Route 66 Backroads: Your Guide to Scenic Side Trips & Adventures from the Mother Road

I saw this at another store and briefly looked through it. I wanted to buy it, but checked Amazon’s price first. The price was better on Amazon and I could wait to get it in the mail.Since I travel the U.S., I am familiar with many of the places documented & photographed in this book, which is why I want it in my library.

I enjoy this book because my husband and I are Route 66 explorers. This gives us some more sites to visit that are a little off the beaten path. Great directions, photos and text.

I bought this as a gift for my brother. He and his wife completed a Route 66 trip in January. They got away from the horrible weather in Chicago and found this book helped them in their decision making on what to see and where to stop.

I really enjoy this book. It has plenty of pictures of the different places on the old Route 66. I definitely want to see more of New Mexico someday.

This book is a great addition to many of the other Route 66 books available. I wish i had had this book along with me when i drove the Mother Road. We took three weeks, it was not enough, although it is doubtful that we would have fitted anything else in our schedule. Route 66 is not the easiest of routes to follow. I had read as much as i could before i went but i did not know about this book and it would have been a great addition to have had along with me. We did cover some of the routes shown in the book but the amount of information in the book would have made it easier to have kept track of route 66 as we went along (although i must point out that it is not a map). We will be going back to attempt to cover a lot of things we missed but i doubt if you could ever cover it all. This book will be going with us and will be used extensively. Very pleased with it.

Having driven Route 66 in 1973 this book gave me much more insight into the treasures within easy reach of the Mother Road. I intend driving it again, this time on a Harley in the next couple of years. I will now have to plan a longer trip to see some of the many places we always miss. A superb book, well worth buying. I would recommend it to all former travelers of Route 66 and for wannabe Route 66ers it is required reading. A much needed guide and a very well written travelling companion.

After reading the history of the road, this book was a nice change. OK, it does go a bit far off the main route with its "backroads" i.e. Galen, Illinois. This is one of my favourite towns, but it is well off Route 66! The pictures in the book are worth the price alone and although I haven't finished it yet, I am thoroughly enjoying this book. I would recommend it for Route 66 fans, but also for those who might want to explore the backroads of the United States as it is a great guide for them as well.

What a great book. Loads of photos with interesting write-ups. I wish that I had had it for the two trips we have made on parts of Route 66. However we hope that we will be able to go again in the near future. It will take a very important place in the planning.

What a really useful book! We are planning our trip for later in 2010 and this has whetted the appetite somewhat. Clear guidance for all the places to go and see, 'off the beaten track' Really nicely set out and comprehensively informative. Definitely one to pack for the trip.

I had bought this book to take on a motorcycle R66 trip that I have coming up soon, but its a bit big for that. It is more of a coffee table type book to read at home, with stunning colour photos, a really nice book...

This is a beautiful book. We are doing Route 66 in about 3 weeks time, end of September2015 and I will definatly be taking this book and several others with us

A great book especially if you are planning a road trip on route 66. It has some lovely places of interest ,pictures are very goog too.

I will return with a review once I have read this book, which arrived amongst a stack of Christmas items.

This is a beautifully produced book with excellent colour pictures. It makes enjoyable reading and I found it useful when making some of the journeys off route 66. I would recommend it.

We are going to do Route 66 next year after we retire especially after seeing Billy Connelly on his harley.
