A must for multi-level homes. The safest window guard on the market! Others are permanently mounted, which could spell disaster in a fire. This one withstands 150 lbs. of pressure, yet removes easily with emergency release buttons. The steel bars are closer together than others (3 7/8 " apart; not 4-5".) The only brand recommended by the city of Boston. Works with single and double-hung windows, as well as sliding and hinged casement windows (does not work with crank-out windows.) Side posts screw mount into your window frame - it's very easy. Please measure your window widths (frame to frame) before ordering. Use these guides to measure for the correct size guard: Single/double hung windows Casement windows Sliding windows Please measure your windows first For Windows This Wide Get This Size Guard 17"-23"W (inc. frame) Extra Small 23"-35"W (inc. frame) Regular 35"-58"W (inc. frame) Medium 58"-90"W (inc. frame) Large

Does what it is supposed to do
This product seems to be of decent quality. I can't decide if a smart toddler could defeat it or not (since it is designed to be easily removable by an adult in an emergency situation such as a house fire), but it does make me feel better about having him near the open window at least when I am in the room. It wasn't very difficult to install, though I installed it within the window frame but outside the window; not sure how it will hold up over time with exposure to bad weather, but it seems fine after 1 winter.

Great product!
Great product! Nice looking and easy to install. It came with an installation template which is always nice! The safety release feature is great and gives us peace of mind for an emergency. I would recommend it to anyone looking to make second story windows safer:)

NOT legal in NYC
Check with your local government agencies first. I bought these hoping to use them in our apartment in NYC but discovered we couldn't use them, we can only use standard issue bars which are unremovable except by the NY Fire Dept. These are very easy to remove by an older child (past toddler) thus they are not a deterrent according to the local laws in NY. In other states/countries, this may be totally fine and work fine for your purposes.

Does need to be screwed into window frame.
Website said gate didn't need to be screwed into window frame. According to the directions it does. Unfortunately I had to pay for shipping both ways; what a waste of money.

Description is not adequate to fit it to my windows
The product seems sturdy and would work for certain windows. My house has sliding windows. Since they are taller than the grates, there is a warning on the package that says not to use it: a child could use it as a ladder to climb to the open part above. Fair enough. But the description for the product does not indicate that. I measured the width of the window, as indicated, and the product would have fit. So, I had to return it and the vendor took it back and credited me, but it was frustrating to not be able to use it.One other thing you should know is that, if the frame of the window doesn't give you clearance for the window to slide or crank, you will need to block out the frame in order to mount the guard. That's not a criticism, just something else to take into account.

Well made but pricey
This unit works as described and was very easy to install - less than 5 minutes with proper tools. My only complaints are 1) the price (but then again, keeping my kid safe is worth it) and 2) I would prefer the little emergency disassembly buttons to be at the back facing the window (not on top) to discourage little fingers from finding and playing with them. My barely 3 year old immediately was drawn to these buttons, and while requiring a firm press to disengage, I have no doubt that with enough time tinkering she could have taken it apart.

Piece of mind
My son's bed is against the window (only way it'll fit in the room) so my husband and I were nervous. We bought this product and can sleep easy now. It's easy to install, secure, and yet it is easy for adults to pop off in case of emergency (we practised to test it out). I highly recommend.

Good product
Very easy to install and/or remove; there's enough slack to be a little off with the holes you drill on either side and still be well lined up. It's sturdy and reliable. It says it can support something like 150 lb, which is obviously dependent upon the strength of your window frame, but I'm confident that my son can't break through it even with a full force run.And it arrived very quickly - maybe only a few days vs. the week+ that was originally estimated.
