A Useful Resource
A great book full of examples of techniques in animation, as the title suggests. There are other books out there that cover similar topics, but I felt this book did a good job of organizing the information clearly. It also has a nice little section on camera movement, which I have not really seen in other books. If you are looking for a book on how to animate, this is not really the book for you. While it does cover it briefly, it focuses more on the production as a whole and not just the act of animating.

A basic book
The book is more about film animation production, that is, you get to read more about how to create storyboards, composition, basic character design, etc. I liked the book since it gives a basic knowledge of all you need to know, like tools and film/tv formats.I disliked the fact that the cover says "...techniques in drawing for animation..." you rarely find drawing techniques and see way too basic animation concepts in the book. If you want to learn how to animate, go for Richard Williams' "The Animator's Survival Kit"

A necessary resource
This book is amazing...it's a resource that any student of animation should not be without. It not only outlines in detail the process of drawing out the animation, it also explains to some degree every aspect of producing the piece. It is an easy read and a great reference, and I wouldn't want to be missing it in my collection.

Essential for the beginner
Definitely for the beginner. This book was such an amazing help. It's really an overview of the animation process and the book will take you from the history of animation to the techniques of drawing characters. Each section is short and to the point, but detailed enough that I feel confident that I am familiar with the process. I have a good feel for animation and can move the next level. The kind of things that are included in the book is the storyboard process: rough sketches, layouts, camera angles and more. Then it goes into the construction of characters: types of characters and their characteristics, proportions and model sheets. Layout: creating layouts, organizing and labeling sheets, what goes into the overlay, underlay and background layouts. The animation section talks about exposure sheets, movement, animation methods, and how to do effects. If you're just starting out in animation, this should be one of the first books you read. It's a fast read, I read it in 2 days, and it's informational.

Excellent animation reference book.
I needed a book which would give plenty of information on the 12 principles of animation, and this did not disappoint. Text supported throughout by very relevant images, a very useful book.
