Helpful but don't spend too much $$ on it...
This book is helpful, but definitely not worth $30+!! I got the book when it was listed for $4.95 and definitely wouldn't advise paying much more than $12-$15 for it at most. It's a pretty simplified and easy to follow format but not the only book you'll want to get to study for the aPHR. If you're going to spend $30 or more buy the aPHR All-in-One Exam Guide Bundle.

Beware: Not sure you'll pass with this book alone.
There are several issues with this book that lead me to decide to find an additional study guide.First, the formatting errors were the initial indication. There are sections completely out of order. For instance, in the HR Metrics section the author is discussing selection ratios. Then, jumps to several paragraphs on adverse impact. Finally, ending the section with two paragraphs about turnover statistics and number of grievances.Second, the issue many people have mentioned, quiz questions that were not mentioned in the study material. Specifically, there is NO MENTION of affirmative action or employee records retention in the Recruitment and Selection chapter. Yet, there are 6 questions in the 19 question quiz about these subjects.I have now purchased the aPHR Associate Professional in Human Resources Certification All-in-One Exam Guide. I will update this review once I have taken the exam.

Not worth the price tag
The information is probably accurate, but how can we be sure when there are so many obvious proofreading errors?? I'm appalled that I spent over $35 on this book and they can't even agree on how to spell the Walsh-Healey Public Contracts Act - it's spelled differently in two separate chapters. The practice quizzes have value, especially because not all of the questions' content is addressed in the chapters and it's nice to learn that information somewhere.

Not enough content
I bought this book based on the reviews here. My background is not in HR so I’m brand new to the field. This book did not provide enough information in my opinion. The questions asked are not touched on in the reading materials; there’s not even a notation to look up X law. I guess I’m not sure how you would be expected to know an answer that you have not been taught. This book does work well as a supplement to the All-in-one aPHR exam guide. The other book provides the details needed to understand each law ect. I do not feel prepared just using this study guide.

Had Potential, but Terrible Editing and Woeful Lack of Content
I bought this book as someone who's trying to take their first steps into Human Resources. In doing some research into what learning materials others have used who are in a similar situation as me I found this book mentioned a handful of times so I gave it a try. While I found the diagrams and charts to be helpful as easy study materials, I feel that not enough information is included within. I googled some laws (Wagner Act, Sarbanes-Oxley) for further clarification and found that often a huge clause, additional rule, or exception to the law isn't included in the text that is essential to know. Others like Needlestick Safety or National Industrial Recovery Act aren't even included. The book needs a serious overhaul and a better editor who could catch all the content and continuity mistakes. There are sections in the book where the reader is tested on information that isn't covered for a few more chapters, and oftentimes the material to learn the answer isn't included. For example, the term "Yellow Dog" and how it relates was tested but never explained in any chapter of the educational content.I would recommend that perhaps this book is skipped in terms of your reference material in your journey to learn Human Resources. There are better, more detailed books out there that can help you get the information you need. This book is good for almost an elementary style explanation of Human Resource materials. If you do choose to purchase anyway I would recommend purchasing additional reference material to supplement your education.Personally, would return this book if I was still able.

so far I have found the study guide to be very helpful.
Hi: I am preparing for the aPHR test and so far I have found the study guide to be very helpful. I can give it a 5 star rating because as I continue to review the material and discuss with my colleagues, we open the door for a broader discussion depending on the topic.I would have like a pretest at the beginning just to see where I am in knowledge wise as a beginner in the field, but working in HR.Once completed, and final test scheduled, I will update my rating.Lastly, although I am requesting the DVD, please consider updating to an online version of the DVD. Laptops do not come with DVD players and I just happen to have a DVD player at home to view it on

Good guide, comprehensive and to the point!!
Good guide, to the point and it helped me understand even better a few concepts examined in this certification. In my opinion, for someone with no previous knowledge and experience in HR, it would be beneficial to use this study guide together with a more detailed study material too. My overall impression of this book is great, and I would recommend it!

Don’t bother.
I’m a bit disappointed with this book. They must have made some edits and not properly revised. For example, I’ve noticed the book reference acronyms and states that they were previous explained. I take copious notes and hightlight like nobody’s business...they were not previously mentioned. Finding that I have to do additional research on some topics presented instead of receiving proper explanations in the guide. Would not buy again or recommend, especially for someone just introducing themselves into HR.
