OK depending what you want it for
So here's the quick version, details below:Pros:The videos (good pace, easy to follow)Book is very portable (pocket size, easily fits in my paper case)The projects are coolCons:Paper quality (slick, glossy, thick; so slippery the joined pieces don't hold together)Paper quantity (get 48 sheets; need 50 to do all 6 projects)Paper size (3.5" which yields tiny finished pieces)Booklet hard to follow without watching DVDThis is a "mini kit", and indeed it is "mini" in every way. There are 6 designs included in the booklet and on the DVD, with one of those being a variation on a previous design, so if you are looking for a lot of patterns, look elsewhere. In addition, it is quite tiny. The booklet is the same size as the DVD envelope and has 32 pages. While the description states there are 48 papers (and it does have 48), this quantity seems odd to me, since actually completing all 6 projects would require exactly 50 papers. I fail to understand why they do not include enough for all the projects, when it is just short by 2. Would it kill them to throw in 2 extra sheets? The size of the paper is 3.5", so the items you make will be mini, as well (for example the Harlequin Cube project ends up being 1.25" in size). As to paper quality, it is not good for origami. It is glossy and slick and about the weight of decent quality wrapping paper, which makes it hard to work with. It is pretty much impossible to connect the pieces because the tabs slide right back out of the pockets. I think if you have any size you like of regular origami paper you'd be better off trying it on that. When I tried them with regular paper, they were much easier to assemble, and stayed assembled nicely. It took some working out to figure what colors to use for which project so it would come out right, since there are all different amounts, ranging from 2 sheets to 13 sheets of 6 different colors. I had to skip trying out one of the projects because of being short by 2 papers.Because the booklet is small, the words telling what to do are minimal. They recommend watching the videos, and after doing so, the diagrams were enough to go by to complete the projects. The problem is, I got this to use at school, and the DVD would not play on the computer at school. It worked fine at home on my laptop. Without the video, the directions seem hard to follow. The videos are VERY good. They use a lot of geometry vocabulary, which will be awesome if I can get it to play for my students. The pace is slow enough to fold along with the instructor, and he uses full-size paper (which I will also use for my students; it will be easier to work with). You get extra tips in the video, and also the pictures in the book don't do justice to the actual finished product in the Pinwheel and in the Hedgehog Dado. They look flat in the photos, but are not. They are far cooler than I thought they would be, which I could see when I watched the videos. So, overall, it depends what you want it for. The projects are pretty cool, but the booklet alone and paper quality would have got 1 or 2 stars at most. The video brought it up to 3 for me (no more, since I can't play it on the computer I need it for).

9 year old Son Loves This!
My 9-year old has recently become interested in Origami. He has loved this book and recently created something from the book that looks so advanced and intricate that he wants to mat and frame it. I recommend this for the dedicated beginner! It's challenging but doable.

Great book of designs.
Great book full of interesting designs that challenge my kids. They are having a blast trying to make all of the different patterns. It is a great way for them to cope with rainy days indoors. A very challenging set of designs that will make beginners through advanced hobbyist excited. A great book.
