A Game of Thrones: The Graphic Novel: Volume Two (A Song of Ice and Fire Graphic Novels)

Continuing An Excellent Adaptation
This is the second of a series of four graphic novels that adapts George R. R. Martin's novel of the same name. The first season of the HBO series was adapted from the same novel, but seasons 2 through 5 are adaptations of later novels in the series. (A Game of Thrones is the title of Martin's first novel, not the later books in the series.) So, If you're looking to compare this volume to the TV series, it corresponds to the second quarter of season 1. It starts just as Tyrion is beginning to leave the wall and ends with Jaime attacking Ned Stark in the streets. The illustrations are beautiful and the book does a good job of telling George Martin's original story. And, although I have both seen the TV series and read the original novel (and love both), this book manages to be engaging and unique in its own right. This is a new adaptation of the novel and it stays closer to the source material than the HBO series. Character designs are closer to their descriptions in the book and dialog is lifted directly from the novel more often. You do occasionally get more detail (or at least DIFFERENT details) in this adaptation of Martin's extremely complex novels than you do in the TV series. So, it does complement the show nicely. However, it's still pretty close to being a version the TV series in comic book form. Season 1 of the series was itself relatively faithful to the book. So, the graphic novel is not all that different. I'm hoping the creators of the graphic novels make it all the way to adapting Martin's fourth novel, where the TV series began to depart significantly from the books it's based on. It would be nice to see Martin's original ideas in graphic form.Additionally, each volume of the graphic novel has some very nice material at the end concerning the making of this particular adaptation. It's good extra reading and nice to see the creator's insights on how they adapted this epic novel. Finally, like the TV series, this is definitely NOT for children. The levels of sexuality and violence depicted here are comparable to the HBO series. If you wouldn't want your kids watching the TV show, you wouldn't want them reading this.

Worth the Money
I have read all the books, my wife & I have seen all the seasons of the TV show. We both love the entire series. My wife is a huge fan of grahic novels so I thought I will buy the first two volumes for her to see how she likes it. She not only likes it, she loves it. The characters are very well done and the artistry is pretty cool. What better way to read a phenomenal story than as a graphic novel. Definitely waiting for Volume 3.

Triumphant!
Much improvement since the first volume in the comic book adaptation of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. The women's characters aren't drawn so much like "bimbo's" in these issues and the spelling errors are at a noticeable minimum. I think in the first volume I counted six spelling and grammar errors and in this volume there were only two. I enjoyed the art and adaptation of this volume more than the first. And the behind the scenes look at how they adapt these issues is also very interesting. It concentrates particularly on the tourney chapter so you can get an idea at how much work and sweat go into just one chapter so you can appreciate just how much work is put into this comic book series overall. Definite hard work.

Another take on an epic
I am a season behind on the HBO series and to be honest bogged down somewhere in the fourth novel. I began to think"Martin is brilliant but where the neck is he going? "Obviously he became somewhat self infatuatedAnd couldn't finish. Maybe that was how it was meant to be so we (readers of prose and graphic and tv fans) can go on alone with the end or on with the never-ending ...Like LOTR and Harry Potter, do we truly want great epics to end? I am happy to be reading this version of A Song of Ice and Fire and recommend it highly..

Pretty faithful representation of the GoT series.
We are a family of book readers, with one teen son who is into graphic novels. In this case, the plot and action closely parallels the GoT books (and HBO series). The quality of the graphics is not quite as high as I would expect. (But teen kiddo loved them.)NOTE - due to the "somewhat spicy" nature of the Game-of-Thrones story line, this is not appropriate for a young teenager. There's swordplay, violence, and some "spicy" situations. Not explicit in the graphic novel - but you get the general idea...JDMc

OME A MUST READ
As a person who loves both the show and books this was an awesome read. When Jory died I wasn’t sure it was my ac or the book that game me the shivers.

love
There's nothing to review. The books, the tv show, now the graphic novel. ... love love love. Great art, great story. .. just greatness lol. Only problem I had was with the way it was shipped. It was not in plastic and the baCk cover was all messed up. That's an amazon issue not the graphic novel

great book
I've read all the books and seen all the latest episodes on HBO.they do a great job sticking to the book. and the art is awesome. If you don't want to read the thick books, this is perfect for you. I am a nerd when it comes to games of thrones and really looking forward to the graphic novel when they get to the other books.

Sehr schöne Graphic novel
Tolle Zeichnungen und Colorationen. Die Subtexte sind sehr gut gewählt.Ich habe auch eine andere Ausgabe aus den USA mit für meinen Geschmack weniger schönen Zeichnungen (Art by Mel Rubi).Mit diesem bin ich sehr zufrieden, bisher habe ich von der Adaption by Daniel Abraham, Art by Tommy Patterson Volume 1-3.

This is the second one of the series I have bought and it's just as good as volume one! Love the drawings and the text...awesome graphic novel... I also like the extras they put in describing the work and effort that goes in to making the books.

Great second installment
I own the first volume and this is much in the same vein, they are a fantastic version of the A Song of Ice and Fire Series and I highly recommend them to anyone who is a fan of either the books or the TV series.
