Species Selenicereus Testudo, commonly called Deamia Testudo or DOG TAIL cactus, has a large, slightly fragrant 9"+ diameter bloom in white with yellow to gold petals. Has sausage type growth that averages 1" to 1-1/2"+ in diameter when young, but can gain more girth with age/maturity up to 3-4" in diameter. Great basket type plant that will hug a container in a downward direction. First discovered in 1837 in these locations: Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Stems are 3 to 5 ribbed type growth, with ribs evenly spaced on hanging stems, and usually flattened on one side when rooting along a tree-trunk or other support surface. Selenicereus take similar care as Epiphyllums, such as rich, well-draining soil, part shade, and adequate water during warm months. They do need brighter light to bloom well, and have lower water requirements during winter, but need protection from very cold temperatures.
