This is a dog lovers novel. People who rescue dogs on a daily basis and care for them are not always rewarded in good job points. Often, their reward comes in knowing they have saved an animal from certain death or from abuse. Happiness is finding good homes for dogs. So who would want to kill these hero ladies? Therein lies the mystery. This is well written novel and answers many questions about dog rescue, the work connected with actually caring for and retraining dogs, and finding good homes for them. Can healing aching doggie hearts also lead to helping human hearts heal too? Maybe that's just one of many questions answered in this great novel.

Enjoyed this story! Interesting twists, well developed characters. Would give 5 stars except it needs some proofreading/editing. In several spots the wrong word was used but it was clear what the writer meant. A second set of eyes looking this over would improve the reading, because the minor issues were distracting to the flow. Otherwise a fun read with some touching developments, can't wait for the next one!

This book, along with the two that follow in this series, are enjoyable and hard to put down. The characters are realistic, like folks in your own neighborhood or work or family. Since I am in rescue myself to a degree, everything she writes about that aspect of the book is true to fact and engaging. Everything about the series makes you want to read more of the lives of Judy and Audrey and 'the rest of the group'. I'm thrilled to support a home town author who keeps my attention in her writing. Looking forward to the series continuing!

I read this as soon as I found out the head of the organization where we found our precious Leila wrote it. I decided to start with this, her first book. What a heartwarming tale with a very good mystery centered around Dog Ladies. Read this! You will love it! On to the second book in her series!

I loved this book! I told myself I was going to read it in short "chunks", but 30 pages in and I knew it was going to be a "read till the end" night! I can't wait for the next "dog lady" mystery.

I enjoyed the book, but ... it was NOT Book 1 of A Dog Lady Mystery. The one I received from Amazon for my Kindle is, in fact, the fourth book in the series, which I enjoyed, but ... I don't know how to obtain the correct first book now. Does anyone have a suggestion for me?

I absolutely loved this book, kept me awake wanting to read more! Cannot wait to read the next ones!!!! Dogs, mystery and looking for clues about ancestors. What a great read!!!!!

I loved this book! I'm the mom to three rescued dogs so could certainly identify. I can't wait for the next book. I just hope the author takes a bit more time with formatting the book before putting it on amazon. Many, many quotation marks were missing or in the wrong place, making it a bit difficult to read in spots.
