Jason is 22, has left home, and decides to reconnect with his Uncle Raul. He is unsure of his welcome, unsure if he can stay. Since we've met Raul in another story, I thought it'd be an interesting time to reconnect. But no, Raul makes very few appearances. He doesn't even take the time to sit down with his nephew and have a heart to heart.Sorry, this one didn't do it for me. Jason is part way through college. No idea what he was majoring in, just that his mom and step-dad cut off his funds. Of course he takes up his schooling once he's in Stone Ridge but again, who knows what field. And while I'm on the subject, who knows what Michel does for a living. What rank his wolf is in the pack. There are so many blanks when characterizing these two.The kicker for me was when Jason was told Michel would never hurt him. Yet Michel, under the influence of drugs, attacks Jason and goes for his throat. Kill shot and Michel barely pulls back in time. Now I know things were intense and Michel was in wolf form and couldn't talk but once they were in the hospital together, they didn't discuss this. This involved trust and Michel should have talked about what the drugs did to his wolf. Did that happen? Of course not!I'm to believe Michel, a 370 some odd year old wolf shifter, a guy that has been married, raised 3 kids, and a grandson. . . A guy with this much experience and knowledge would mess up with his mate. Miscommunication. Assumptions. It was all just really off.This is the first time I've heard of a wolf from this pack 'hiding' while reinventing his image. All the other mates are living their lives and they're not getting a new image. Carson is still the enforcer and I bet he's been Declan's enforcer for decades. And I know Carson leaves pack lands to do his job. Then there's Declan. He's just as old as Michel yet I've never heard one word about him reinventing himself.So Jason agrees to live with Michel, off the grid, out in the woods. They still have differences to overcome. They declared their love to each other rather quickly and when the story ends they are happy for now but not a HEA. Sad. - Dan's Wife

There are a lot of misunderstandings between the mates in this story. Something that may have do with them being a May/December couple. With one being a Wolf shifter and the other a Human never even knowing that shifters exist. A young man whose self esteem is so low it's hard for him to see himself as someone his "mate" would want.His being gay caused trouble with his stepfather & unfortunately his mother went against her own son. This devastates Jason. He packs up his few belongings and heads to his Uncle Raul's home. Scared he might be turned away but instead, he receives one shock after another. Namely his uncle is gay!A nearly 400 year old Wolf shifter Michel has to become a recluse up on the mountain away from everyone, because people started to notice he wasn't aging. Since his nonmate wife had died & his grandson delivered his groceries so he wouldn't even have to go to town Michel rarely came down.Searching out his Alpha and Beta led him to the home of a pack member. A wonderful smell made him hesitate before he drove away. Finally he realized how stupid he was to sense his mate & just leave. So he went back inside the home of Raul & Sean and their little girl, Sean's niece.The attraction was instantaneous between the two opposites. The big bearded mountain man and the young man who was attracted to big bears. Since he was hiding out he couldn't take his Human mate out to dinner and not just jump his bones, not with Jared as a honorary "uncle ". They finally settled on a hike near Michel's backwoods cabin.From that point on there is a lot of action. Naked mountain man sunbathing in his secluded yard, seduction, sneaky attacks, shifting, shocks, violent attacks, recovering, fear, rage, ignoring, accepting, impatience, good friends, misunderstandings, jealousy, not hearing each other, running away or staying to fight, having other same sex role models, and family dynamics.Four new Wolf shifters were introduced plus the mention of Michel's shifter children and grandchildren. It makes you wonder if they will appear in one of the later books in one of the four Charlie Richards series: Wolves of Stone Ridge, Kontra's Menagerie, A Paranormal's Love, and the most recent A Loving Nip. Oh brilliant love the plot and the explaining how they hide the slow ageing thing very clever but so lonely xx so sweet how the pack comes together as a family :)
