Great collection of the images and impressive description of different events and stages in the development of the Ships and the global movements of people and materials. By reading this, one can easily understand that globalization in its real sense started some 400 years ago with development of the Ships that could travel far in a predictable manner and not in 21st Century with internet etc....Very few people know the role of Maritime developments and how it has changed our life as we live today. Reading this book has been an eye opener for me.

it was a (unpleasant) surprise to find a work of such a respected researcher, framed by a often rhetorical view of History, which misrepresents the past in the name of a British nationalist and imperialist cultural conception, and attempts to mitigate the advances and developments of other nations, showing a (deliberate?) ignorance about Maritime History.

This book has loads of information regarding the history in the maritime industry.Book was bought as a christmas present but I'm told it is a brilliant book, worth the money if interested.

WoW what a magnificient book - well done to the maritime museum for their work in compiling it. Images aplenty on each page and overlaid onto larger images making it a super reading experience. Mu hubbie and I buy reference books and many DK books but this is just as good to use as info and to dream of far off lands reached by a grand clipper or galleon of old. Beautiful text and info well researched.What a truly wonderful prize

This book is full of fascinating facts about the history of boats from very early times with excellent pictures.For me personally some of the captions are written in very small writing and I need to use a magnifyer1Perhaps younger would not have that problem.

Terrific book!It is a DK book to begin with, and one has the writing talents of no less than Brian Lavery - what else could anyone wish for???Just buy the book at the best price you can find - you will not regret it!Highly recommended.
