The Red Balloon (Oberon Plays for Young People) Paperback – April 1, 2000

I have always loved this book and the cover and print are exactly as they were forever.

I was read this book as a child. The one thing I really enjoy about this book is being able to read it to students now. I enjoy it because they are photographs from a different place and a different time. The children were very interested in the black and white photos as well as the color photos and it was interesting for them to compare and contrast the outfit that Pascal is wearing and the color of the balloon in red and black and white

This was always one of my favorite movies. I found the original French movie on TV and shared it with my 5 yo Granddaughter. She loved it. Bought the book and it is a bedtime must read when we are visiting

The Red Balloon is in my view one of the best films ever made and an important film that’ll make you laugh and cry. My grand children ages 8 and 5 love the film and truly loved this book. The day it arrived we sat down and I read it to them and examined the stills from the movie all of which worthy of a showing of their own. Although they have seen the movie multiple times, reading the story of Pascal and the red balloon was a great experience for all of us.

Does a balloon have feelings? How does a balloon decide to travel across a city? Does it have a brain? These and questions like them always follow when I watch Albert Lamorisse's classic "The Red Balloon" with my granddaughters. They are close enough to the ground to believe in magic. They identify with Pascal for feeling the outsider as his balloon gains unwanted attention and with Sabine because of her compassion (and her balloon is blue, a favorite color in the girls' world.)The story's lessons of bullying and acceptance aren't lost on my girls either and when it comes time to settle down, they often request the companion book or the film (they have both.)With the increasing attention on bullying and what's do be done about it, "The Red Balloon" is a powerful tool both at home and in the classroom. We could stand to have "Red Balloon" days in every school, lower to upper, which end in discussions about what bullying looks like. Perhaps if bullying is identified by everyone everywhere, we can stunt its growth once and for all.

I owned this book as a child and I read it often. I never forgot the book and it’s impact on me. It was comforting to me to know that I wasn’t alone and that bullying isn’t ok. I bought this for my granddaughters book collection at my home. They are too young to understand it just yet but maybe the day will come when they find comfort or wisdom in it too.

Excellent book about loyalty and friendship.

I got it for my 15-month-old grandson because he started noticing balloons in his board books. He love The Red Balloon so much that he wants to read it several times a day. He loves the photos.

I gifted this book to my grandson as I remember it being my favorite book since I was 5 years old. It is such a pleasure to know that the charm of the story still lives on …. My grandson loves having it read to him before bedtime. ❤️

Beautiful book.

This book is a favorite of mine, as a child I had this read to me in class and I was blown away by the experieince of the main character. I have retained the impression to this day, I am now about to turn 60 and bought this for my first grandchild.
