A must have, Great illustrations and words worth reading!
One of my all-time favorite books from childhood that I now can read to my children. Good rhyming, built on traditional song and has a strong indisputable moral to the story-thereโs always room for one more.

Caldecott Winner Forever In Print
Sorche Nic Leodhas was a pen name for my Great Aunt, Leclaire Gowans Alger. I'm proud that this charming book remains in print, a boon for winning the Caldecott Medal. I recently purchased this copy to present to Skibo Castle, once Andrew Carnegie's home in the Highlands of Scotland, now the heavenly Carnegie Club. Since my aunt was a children's librarian and itinerant storyteller for Pittsburgh's Carnegie Library system, I'm sure she would have been pleased to know that her book had found a home in another of Carnegie's libraries.

A Scottish tale that bears retelling.
This is a favorite story of mine. I bought it for a new grandson. It is a timeless story of sharing.

Enjoyable
Our family has Scottish roots, so I like that this book is a traditional Scottish song and includes a glossary of terms at the back. My 9-year-old really likes it. I was surprised to see that it's considered a third-to-fourth grade reading level at her school, where they use a levelled system from A to Z. It would be appealing to younger children too if read or sung aloud.

My mother read this to me when I was a kid and I have yet to forget its underlying message of charity. I just purchased this to read to my daughter and aim to help her learn the same message.

Great children's book
My kids and I have borrowed this book numerous times from the library and finally went ahead and bought it. We read it all the time, I love how it's written and the pictures and the moral and so do my kids!

A wonderful part of Scottish oral tradition
I was very pleased to find this available and still in print! It is great to have a copy of this song recorded by Sorche Nic Leodhas and I hope to pass it on to my grand children.
