I Am Talking: Teach your toddler to speak

Great tool
My neph loves this book!!!. He has a speech delay and he is enamored with reading this book. He spontaneously says the phrases from the book throughout the day. He reads along with me, meaning he says the words and knows what is coming next.He will go through the book on his own saying what is happening in the story as he recognizes the picture. This really helped jump-start his spontaneous vocabulary. For example, he now says "pick me up" which is a phrase included in the book. Be forewarned if your child loves this book as much as my neph....it will drive you crazy because it is very repetitive. He would have me read it repeatedly until I wanted to cry! lol :-) It has really helped my nephew understand how describing what he is doing or what he wants works for him. I am very happy with this purchase!P.S. My neph is 3. He was 2 (18-20mos) when I bought the book for him. He still loves it.

Definitely recommend this book!
We love this book. It’s my kid’s favorite! We would read it every day to my daughter until she started reading it to us! We love it so much we bought it again for the baby.He quickly fell in love with the book and the pages are familiar to him. He has his favorite pages we have to speed to get to! The pictures are bright and full of details and the amount of words on each page is just right to help toddlers learn to speak.Thank you Yael for this book. Even grandmas house has one!

Waste of time for us.
Perhaps this is useful for kids who are speech delayed, but it's pretty pointless for my 22 month old. She's already much more verbally advanced than this. I was hoping for something that helped her to develop her vocabulary a little more as there are times she gets frustrated when she can't communicate exactly what she wants, but this is NOT it. This might have been helpful a year ago, but it's certainly pointless now.

Beautifully illustrated, great learning tool
We are very happy with this book. Our son's Pediatrician told us he may have some speaking delays at his 15 month appointment, so we researched books to address the issue. This book popped up on various websites, recommended for early intervention. After reading it with him one time, I knew it would begin to make a difference. It truly encourages the child to say certain words on the page and around the house/outdoors. We've been reading it for about two weeks now and we think he's picked up 3-4 words from the book. Very pleased with purchase.

very strange
The book has strange illustrations, but it might appeal to babies. It does repeat itself quite a bit, but that's great for little ones. I haven't been able to read all the way through the book yet w either one of my kids, not interested.

Cheesy, but my kid loves it & helped with pronouns. Poor construction though.
Yes, it's a totally cheesy book, but my 21 month old loved it & wants to read it repeatedly. It quickly became her favorite for a few weeks. The drawings are actually a bit creepy to me, but perhaps those are the caricatures that appeal to children. She was a chatterbox before, but she would typically use her name in a sentence instead of me/my/I/you. I feel like this book helped her start using pronouns. I thought the phrases in general "pick me up" were good & she's anticipate the words before I said them by looking at hte page.My complaint is that the book fell apart within a few weeks. It's a thin book with very cheap glue holding the pages together. They quickly started falling out & I had to send the book back because my daughter was asking to read it every night.

super tool for prompting speech
I was a first time mother frustrated with my two year olds' speech delay and lost about what to do. This book made me feel like I had a speech therapist in my very own living room! Not only did the book itself help give me prompts on how to initiate speech with my son and get him to respond, the tools in the back of the book gave concrete advice my husband and I began to use on a daily basis. Its been a couple of months and I credit the book for the progress my son has made on his speech!

Doesn't help.... at all!
This book is just dumb, and very overpriced! It is a cheap paperback book with like ten pages to it. It basically goes like this. "I am talkng what do I say? I say mama, I talk, Hooray! Then it repeats that same phrase on every freaking page just changing out the word being said on each page. There is no way this is going to help your child talk, at least not more than any other book! Reading in general can help your children learn to speak but there is NOTHING special about this book.

I had the impression this book would have more guidance ...
I had the impression this book would have more guidance for teaching toddlers that have been slow to speak; it is really a children’s book to read to your toddler.

Not great
Terrible quality. Graphics and font make this book difficult to read. Returned!

Love it.
Very good book, I brought it being unsure but my son loves it, and has already started trying to say some of the words. I actually looking for more books similar to this now as I find this book works really well to help encourage speech.

It did nothing for my son.
My son (2.5 yrs) very quickly lost interest.I like the idea of cheering on the speech of your toddler (Hooray I'm talking! is a repeated phrase in the book). That's the only thing I did like. It's difficult to review as any child is different and will probably experience different difficulties with their speech. My son is bilingual and I believe not confident enough to try out sounds and words, as he is anxious to get them wrong. This book did nothing to encourage those issues. As it did not encourage my son to try and make sounds and words, and just give it a go. Therefore, conversation quickly dried up on my side too, as the book needs a response of your child to be fun (so you can do the cheering together). If your child does not respond, the book becomes very boring. Also the drawings feel very outdated, and did not appeal to my son at all!
