Great starting point for kindergarteners!
Once I got past the fact that they spell 'kindergartner' differently than I would (and yes, I even checked dictionary.com to verify their way was correct, lol!), I set about examining the book itself. The series focuses on defining the least common denominator of what children absolutely must learn before moving on to a higher grade, and I'm very grateful for some level of guidance. I'm a (newbie) homeschooler, and I could not for the life of me find any kind of reference to tell me what skills are the most important to learn at the kindergarten level. With this book, I finally did. This book not only tells me the essentials of what should be covered, but also ways to teach them and gives references to other books that I can use to do it. As so many before me have said, the curriculum included is not all your children are expected to learn in kindergarten. However, it provides a solid place to start. The introduction is excellent and helps the reader understand that when our children are being educated, there needs to be a common ground--things that all children need to learn before moving on to the next grade level. Having moved at the end of 2nd grade, I know all too well what it's like to be bored out of your skull in class as your teacher covers things you already learned eons ago. And if a kid from my new school had moved to my old school, imagine the stress of suddenly being expected to know things you've never been exposed to!One comment of this book really got me. The parent who felt she'd scarred her child for life by reading Casey Jones to him really made me shake my head. A responsible parent will read a story he or she is planning on with a child in advance, to make sure that you want to and are ready to discuss anything that the story might bring up. Don't blame the book; blame yourself for not doing your homework. It took me less than 2 minutes to read the Casey Jones story, which I did based on that review. It was the story of a brave man who sacrificed his life to save the lives of many, much like another story I expose my children to all the time.

My Homeschool Guidebook
We haven't used this book yet, but I have looked through it. We homeschool so I like to have a Guidebook on making sure I am covering enough topics and subjects throughout the school year. I will update my review when we go to use it. I am excited to use it!We did use What Your Preschooler Needs to Know so we are familiar with the author.___We are using this book in our curriculum. We are Eclectic homeschoolers, so we spend some of our days at home with workbooks and other days attending Nature programs, art classes, sport classes etc. When we stay home we read 2 pages a day from this book so it will last through the entire school year. We are starting from the beginning and working our way to the end; no skipping around from subject to subject...it makes my life easier :) We are currently using the DK workbook series for DK Workbooks: Science, Kindergarten and DK Workbooks: Geography, Kindergarten for the Fall Semester. When we get to the Spring Semester, we will be "reviewing" Science and Geography via "What Your Kindergartner Needs to Know"! I like how that will be opposites for us so our kids will get Science and Geography year round. I also like that there is art in the book. I can ask our girls about the colors used, does the artwork make them feel happy or sad, we discuss the clothes from the time period, etc. The fables and poetry is a great way to throw in some extra reading and making sure our kids are hearing some of the classics.

Highly recommend
Great for my Kindergartner. I wasn’t sure if he would slow down enough to be homeschooled for kinder and be ready for in-school Grade 1. The way this book is organized it was so easy. Knowing the topics had just enough information to give him the facts and it always sparked great conversations if he wanted to go deeper in the subject. Which he usually does. We completed the history and he wants more. It’s not a full curriculum it is just what the title says, however with history I find the page by page topics better than my curriculum for my kinder. Kids are all different, but parents this book is worth the price.

Im not a homeschool mom, im nit even a stay at home mom. I forgot my wallet so i came to amazon and i saw the older version on here and i had to order it because for that price why not and i omg i use this book EVERY SINGLE DAY. We do at least one activity and my kids have memorized so many poems fables stories etc and thats just the language arts theres also math science music at and history! People are surprised to hear the facts my kids know! We also purchassed the Bob books wich the book recomends at the beginning and my 4 year old is actually picking up on reading already. She had trouble naming some letters but knew all her sounds so reading is coming along great! So awesome love all the notes to parents and the waythe book is laid out love love it!

this version I feel like I'm reading what I should say to my child
DIfferent format then the other volumes I own.(preschool, first grade and 4th grade.) Why they changed it I'm not sure, but the other versions I could read with my child, this version I feel like I'm reading what I should say to my child.

Happy Mom
We have been doing this for 15 days and my five year old is reading. My four year old is reading with a little help. I love this program because it doesn't require a lot of time or patience. We pair this program with Bob Books and get the perfect balance.
