So helpful and fun
My daughter really loves these books and she can’t wait to finish a set and order the next level of books. It’s really helped with her reading confidence!

A smart start for your 4-5 year old
I have a 4 year old who is in preschool. I wanted to supplement and encourage reading at home. I started with the Bob series. I purchased the first set of Bob books. I like the Bob books because each page had 7-8 word sentences. It's not overwhelming for first readers. I read and underlined with my fingers every word on a page. Then it was my child's turn to read the page. He practiced reading the page over and over. I pulled out the vocabulary words from each page and made 3X5 flash cards. We took a page at a time to review the words. We also practice spelling the word. Then he had to makeup a sentence using the new word. We took our time to read and practice every page. It took 1-2 weeks to complete the first book. Each book set had 3 levels and 5 books per level. I also purchased the BOB Workbooks which are very comprehensive. In today's times parents, grandparents and caregivers are the first line of teachers not the school system.

Perfectly charming for my Kindergartener
We love Bob books for reinforcing reading skills learned in school. This set is fun and silly and the illustrations are updated. I'd give it 5 stars for content. However, the construction of the books are sloppy. We've had two that have have had the middle staples not go through all the way and pages seem to be out of order. This is particularly bad on Book 4, "The Red Car". Add to that, there are no page numbers as in earlier Bob books so I don't even know if I'm putting the pages in the right order and some of that is due to the silliness of the stories. Overall, we do love our Bob book reading time. They are perfect in size and length for this age group.

Great Confidence Builder
The main reason I purchased this set was to give my 5-1/2 yr old something that he could actually read all by himself. For that reason these books get a 5 star from me. At bedtime last night I told him to pick out a book for me to read to him and that I had a book for him to read to me (the first book in this set). I had to insist that he save the rest of the books in the set for another time after he finished the 2nd and 3rd books as well. I think between the 3 books he read I only had to help him with 3 words (polliwogs for example). He was absolutely thrilled with these books and the fact that HE was able to read the book to ME gave him alot of confidence. This set is the first set of Bob Books we've had, I skipped getting the first set just because it looked way to easy and a little beneath the reading level my son is at. Each book in this set is just about the right length, long enough that my son felt like HE read a good story, but short enough that he didn't get bored with it. We timed how long HE was reading to me, his kindergarten teacher wants to track reading time at home for a monthly reward program, and it took him right at about 4-1/2 minutes per book. I would totally recommend these books, I plan on getting a few of the other sets now that I've seen how much my son loves this set.

Perfect for improving reading.
Wow these are wonderful. I've ordered and used the Stage 2 for emerging readers and just recently got stage 3 for the developing reader (word families). Other publishers just list words in the word families. Bob's books makes STORIES out of the word families. This really makes the child feel accomplished when they can read an entire book.I use these with my 5 year old grandchild and we were suppose to skip a day (because he doesn't have school on Wed so we usually skip Wed.) but after reading 3 stories from stage 2 emerging reader he asked to do "reading" the next day.!! Imagine a child asking to do school work!....I will continue to order the other sets Bob has out.!!

More good, slow and steady practice
My daughters have been working their way through the first two boxes and have started on the 3rd box. While the numbered books in the first two boxes gradually get more challenging, I feel that all 12 books in this box are about equally challenging and it is not really necessary to work through them sequentially. The most important factors in this level is that the child is building on the foundational skills and the challenges now being introduced are:* more words in each sentence and on each page* a few more sight words here and there* a few blended consonant words* a bit more punctuationOnce we finished the 2nd box, we jumped into the 3rd box. But even though the content doesn't seem that much more advanced, it posed enough challenge for my daughter that she would get frustrated. I realized we needed to keep practicing the 2nd box while introducing an occasional new book from the 3rd box.I'm grateful that box 3 is not a huge leap to lots of new concepts but rather a gradual practice regime for building up those basic skills. That's just what we needed. Keep building confidence with slow, steady practice, and lots of it!So many other series jump too quickly to the next level and then you're left without enough low-level practice material. That's why BOB books are so great.

Teaching a kid English while living abroad? You HAVE to have this.
I'm an American with a Japanese life and my 7 year old son was born and raised here in Japan.I've bought a lot of English study materials, and the Bob Book series has been uniformly excellent in every way. 100% recommend.Note that my kid at least wasn't self-directed enough to study by himself, except a few days he sat down to read the Bob Books. Instead, we had a mini "English Class" about an hour a day and worked through this material.

Great learning
My son loves these books. They repeated sounds and reoccurring characters and themes help boost his confidence as he is learning to read.

Outstanding! Great set of books for early readers
We love the bob books series for our kindergartner, who is learning to read small words. The books are cute and come in suitable sizes for a pre-schooler/ kindergarten children to read and practice their vocabulary.

Great books but we may stop at set 3
Great books but they are getting harder....My son really enjoyed levels 1 and 2. He is 5 now. We liked this set however beware, the stories are still fun but we found them less interesting than the first 2 sets. Also my son sometimes got overwhelmed with more text. I am happy that there were two activity books included, as this broke our reading routine a bit. That being said he did successfully complete the books and then went on to readers. I am not sure that he will need set 4 and 5, As it seems that 1, 2 and 3 have done the job. He is now reading at a grade one level, I would expect that he will be reading at a grade 2 level before the age of 6. These books have been so beneficial for our son. I highly recommend them. After sets 1, 2 and 3. The child will recognize many sight words and have a nice phonics foundation. He or she will be ready for first reader books.

Perfect for my kids
Great beginner reading books for my 5 year old. Would highly recommend. Simple and short. We have found if the books are too long she looses her focus, so these Bob books are the perfect length. She feel such a sense of accomplishment after each book and is eager to keep going on. Also ordering and shipment from Amazon was easy and fast, thank you.
