Complete ammo book
This is an excellent book about different types of ammo and when to use them, but it didn't teach me the math of ballistics.

No, not about ballistics, but a good guide to bullet selection
As noted in other reviews, using the word "Ballistics" in the title is fairly inaccurate. The only thing that is discussed regarding ballistics is BC and bullet shape; a little is mentioned regarding G1 vs G7 bullet profiles, and how bullet weight and profile impact a trajectory, but there is no real math in the book and how to "understand" ballistics (except for a brief section on how SD is calculated).Having said that, it does serve nicely in other ways. The author does do a fairly decent job of describing the characteristics of a wide variety of calibers as well as bullets (and their design), along with some commentary on what circumstances work for each bullet. For me, I knew a fair amount about bullets, but this book gave me a lot more information that I didn't have. The author gives some opinions on some of the common "controversies" (such as what size bullet and calibers can kill big game like deer or bear), which you can take or leave, but his opinions are always based on his experience, not what he heard or what someone told him.I will keep this book handy; any time I look to try a new load, or if I look to start shooting a new caliber, I will look up what is said and use that as a starting point.

Thank You Sir you have made reloading a pleasure
First off, I would like to say that I purchased the first book that he authored and the content and the principals that he offered were great for myself being a novice at reloading This second book has everything you need to help you decide what bullet to use and find what works for your rifle I think that the contents of this book will help even the most experienced reloader and hunter to understand what makes your round tick Thank You Philip P Massaro i'll be at amazon waitng for your next book.

Terrible book
This book is terrible. It's useful information can be contained in a five page pamphlet, and then it would still be mediocre. This guy may have a lifetime of experience packing (terminology?) his own bullets, so is perhaps a practical "expert" of some kind, but he is no expert on ballistics (the science of projectiles). HIs knowledge also seems limited to his particular preferences, since at every stage he provides the warning that what he does to prepare suits him but he could not recommend it, which runs counter to writing a book on practical/useful knowledge. He may as well just say "this is what I do, and while I recommend learning how to prepare your own bullets to anyone who uses firearms, it's a very subjective practice with very general principles that are not easily prescribed to others ... basically, play with things until they work for you, everyone is different and results run from ideal to downright dangerous. But in every case, if you pack your own ammunition you void all manufacturer warrantees, and all firearm manufacturers include this very statement with their products and have become very good at detecting when privately packed ammo is used." Finally, his writing is poor.

Not about ballistics.
Purchased to gain a better understanding of ballistics. This book is a beginners guide to caliber and bullet selection. Outside of one formula for sectional density, this book covers what are suitable calibers and what bullet to use for a specific game size. Not a bad read but not what I was looking for when purchased.

Does NOT do what it says on the tin.
Does not do what it says on the tin, disappointed as its more about cartridge selection than ballistics ,made up from magazine articles, dated and I can not recommend this "book".

But overall the book was excellent.
I thought there would be more information on pistol calibers. But overall the book was excellent.
