NOT color illustrations
The story is still one of my favorites - definitely "award winning". However, this book does not have the beautiful illustrations within the covers. Find another version for a better experience.

Great Book
We got this book for free at the start of the pandemic (Amazon Kindle had about 9 special books for free) but we didn't read it until now.The kids loved it. We read in about three days - kept the attention of my four year old, my seven year old and my nine year old

Great introduction to chapter books
We bought the whole series (My Father's Dragon, Elmer and the Dragon, The Dragons of Blueland) for our 3 year old son. He LOVES these books. We have read them at least five times each since buying them a couple weeks ago. A chapter is a great length for a quick bedtime story, although we usually end up reading two or three chapters. Just so you know, this book is larger in size than the other two. The cover illustration even looks like it was resized a bit too large. There are some pages without any pictures, but no more than one spread in a row is without a picture, which helps keep his interest. Additionally, the pictures are well-placed so that if anything happens that kids might find scary (like Elmer meeting hungry tigers in My Father's Dragon) there is a picture that shows that everything is okay on that same page. My son hates conflict in books, or for things to be too scary, so I feel like these books strike a great balance. Nobody (Elmer, the Dragon, any animals they meet) gets injured or eaten, they just get bested with clever solutions. In these books, Elmer is kind, helpful, and resourceful. I am happy to read these books over and over to my son because the story is good and Elmer is a good role model. I would recommend this series highly as a first chapter book series to read aloud to any child.

I Feel Old
I'm an older fellow, so this may not be the best book for me, but it's probably a great book for younger kids. The book isn't any longer than it needs to be, which is good, and I loved the part where the tigers chew on bubble gum, but I think I expected the book to be a lot weirder, and was kind of let down. All of the animals talk, and this is never explained. I kind of like the lack of explanation actually, and I like the hiding kid being mistaken for a bag of corn. The plot moves very briskly. The kid says he wants to fly, the cat he meets tells him how to find a dragon, and in the next scene, he's off to find a dragon, simply because he said he wanted to fly one time. Of course, later he wants to rescue the dragon simply to end its mistreatment.I'm sure this book is fun to read if you're a little kid, or if you're reading to a little kid, but if you're an old man reading it by yourself for the very first time, you kind of hope Willy Wonka will show up or something. I didn't read much when I was little, so I don't know what I'm talking about. You wouldn't have to twist my arm to get me to agree that this is a perfect first chapter book. It's a good length. The illustrations are beautiful, by the way. They're very, very well done.

Terrific Children's Folk Tale for Kindle!
' He took chewing gum,two dozen pink lollipops, a package of rubber bands...a tooth brush and a tube of toothpaste, six magnifying glasses...seven hair ribbons of different colors, an empty grain bag with a label saying "Cranberry" ' ... and then Elmer Elevator had himself one whale of an adventure! Don't even think about ordering a non-illustrated version of this short classic chapter book having superb black-and -white artwork that added immensely to this clever story. Loved the manner in which tortoises talked, tigers were tricked, rhinos were restrained and crocodiles were crossed. Be certain you purchase the Open Road edition ASIN: B071GQ4P1M as all I can say further is that I especially enjoyed this kindle book and am definitely going to be looking out for more of Ruth Stiles Gannett's works!

THIS IS A PIRATED BOOK AT PRICE OF REAL ONE
The cover is a digital copy of the original book. The copyright page has a made up publisher. The publisher is listed as INFINITY which is not a publisher. The copyright date is listed as 2020, but the original book is published by Random House, dated 1948. In 2005, a paper back was issued. Only a few of the illustrations of the original are included and they are poor copies. I got Covid the day after the book arrived and haven't been able to leave my house. However, next week I will return it to Whole Foods. Don't be tricked by this "company!" Get the paper back which has wonderful map and original pictures

My ADD son loved it, thats good enough for me
I think readers have got used to high quality printing and perfect punctuation but this book is a cute story about a cat and a boy. I dont think the cover or the quality of the writing makes any difference to a child. We read 2 chapters each night before bed and my son really loved it and waited to hear the end of the story. This is obviously a project of a self publishing writer and I think she did an amazing job.One thing though - My son was sad that we didnt get to read on what happened next when "My Dad" and Dragon went back and met the alley cat. Is it in the next book?

Sweetest book ever
I had this book as a child, and read it many times. Was so stoked to find it again in a search, and I purchased it to read to my grandchildren. Thank you, Amazon!!!

I LOVE this book and highly recommend it - but THIS edition is an awful Creative Commons rip-off
I was so excited to buy this book for my son, as I loved it so much as a child. I specifically purchased the hardback because I wanted it to feel like a real solid wonderful book for him. What I received was a "Creative Commons" edition - with horrible formatting, cheap thin paper, and illustrations that have been shrunk down so small that you can barely see them. (Most illustrations in the original are supposed to take up an entire page of the book). Even the cover art is completely off-center. I'm sending this back right away and searching for a genuine print of this wonderful children's book.
