A native of the tropical areas of North and South America and often referred to as 'Indian Shot' prior to interest by the hybridisers. Nowadays, there are a multitude of colours in both leaf and flower that it is very hard to keep up with them. Cannas will grow almost anywhere if they are given the care they need in the climate they are growing. In warm climates, they will grow without much care provided sufficient water is available. In cold climates, they would probably need to be lifted and stored in a warm place until Spring. Whatever your climate the Canna Lily will provide you with big, bold leaves bringing a tropical feel to your garden. The Canna Lily is a perennial plant growing to 1.2 metres with a spread of 0.5 metres. The stems are erect and the leaves are 50cm long, mid green, lanceolate and clasping; the flowers are red and occur in terminal clusters in summer.
